    Skies of Arcadia

i just finished up the dreamcast version last night, clocking in a little over 50 hours.

the story is good, i like the characters, but the battles are just too long for the wrong reasons. flying around trying to search for Discoveries is completely annoying with random battles.

the best part about it though is definitely the sense of new world exploration it gives you. from passing through the dark rift to submerging down into the deep sky, it feels like a real-life journey through unknown territory at times. another great part is the bond that develops between vyse, aika & fina. the games ends in a very fufilling way and i hope they never make a direct sequel.

i beat Skies of Arcadia Legends for gamecube a while back, so now i feel like i've experienced SoA to the fullest. the battles kind of slow the game down, but otherwise it's a great RPG.

What's the difference between the DC and the Gamecube version?

Gamecube has some more sidequests and stuff like that. I also think they have a new fourth party member.

I love Skies of Arcadia. It was a hell of a lot more entertaining than it had any right being. The story was cliche as all hell, but the characters (stock though they were) were charming and easy to sympathize with. The game kept a sense of humor and also had pretty good character design. I can't remember one REALLY ugly character in the game. The ship battles were kinda neat, too. I also love that there wasn't a love triangle or some ******** angle like that. The characters remained just friends until the very end, which is rare in a genre that feels like it has to pair everyone up. It was a really cherished experience for me and it sucks that more people didn't play this game.

Well, if I were to get a copy of this, which version would you guys recommend?

I don't see a reason not to get the GC one. I don't think it had any negatives that weren't already in the original.

I hated the fact that all the random battles took upwards of 3 minutes.

That pic isn't coming through at my job, but if it's a pic of Pinta, you suck.

Three Minutes? Mine took like a minute, if that. Aika just Lambda Burst or Omega Psycloned everybody, and that tended to wipe enemies out fairly easily.

                    Re: Skies of Arcadia

I really loved the game. The pirate theme is one I really like, along with the great characters that you really feel an attachment to. Not to mention the love triangle between the 3 main characters.

Seeing your secret pirate base develop is a lot of fun.

I didn't mind the battles. And once you get far enough in the game, you can just bypass a lot of the random ship battles.

I defintally recomend the gamecube, since it has the extra sidequests. One with a neat pirate hunter.

                      I never played it.

Wait. Is there a love triangle or isn't there?

                      Or is that a spoiler?

SOA is one of my favorite RPGs ever. It's right up there with Chrono Trogger in my book.

The GC version also has your evil dopplegangers running around. They're pretty funny.

SOA reminds me a lot of One Piece.

no love triangle, though at times it seems there could be. turns out it's just really strong friendships.

I love Skies of Arcadia myself. As much as I say I'm an RPG fan, I think there are only two actual RPGs that I've played all the way through...the original Final Fantasy, and Skies of Arcadia, which I played through twice. On the second playthrough (on DC) I clocked over 100 hours. I know it's a bit cliched, and there are a LOT of random battles, but I didn't mind fighting them. It was fun. I'd have to say out of all the games I've felt the most satisfaction once I finished them, Skies of Arcadia is right up there at the top of the list. And this is a question directed to John Mora...in another post very recently, someone who evidently was here a while ago (I can't remember his name...EDIT: His name is Syvarius) posted a picture of Pinta while referencing you. Now you yourself are referencing Pinta. Story??? And while you're at it, why does this emote have your name on it?

I assumed that's the face he makes whenever he edits someones post.
