I meant when it's available in English, regardless of region.

Unfortunately, the Mother series is so far from what the mainstream consider "Normal" (just like the surrealism of Ico or the "personal discovery" of Kings Field) that it's sales were low because people weren't used to it and couldn't connect. An unfortunate side effect, but I still praise game developers for trying new things which keeps people on their toes and helps a stale genre stay fresh.
I think part of the problem was a special "Something Stinks" promotional ad that Nintendo Power had in one issue. I'd say that's why I didn't pay any attention to it.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Was the Something Stinks ad the scratch and sniff thing? I didn't subscribe to Nintendo Power until 1996 (which came with a free copy of Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger strategy guide which I still have ) so I don't know what that was about. I still have my original scratch n sniff stickers with the player's guide that came with the original boxed game, though.

I'm not sure. I don't think I payed all that much attention to it.

I love Murakami, I love MGS2, I love (and hate maybe?!) RPGs. I'm gonna finally give Earthbound a chance this summer.

I wrote this big post defending the game, but the pav timed out on me while writing it, and loging back in it couldn't find the topic. By the time I had backed my way to the posting page, the internet had lost everything I had wrote. Lessend learned: Don't use my parent's crappy 15 year old iMac.

I will repeat the last line: In Polestar Preschool a child says "Though I may have a baby face, I am very mature." An apt description of the game it'self. Earthbound has surprising depth and maturity. Just because it's graphics, pert language, and uncovential storytelling may make it seem childish on the surface, doesn't mean that if you dig a little deeper you won't find a level of sophistication rarely seen in videogames.

                        I love this game.

I remember wanting it ever since i saw the Nintendo article in Nintendo Magazine.

I asked my father for it, and he said to rent it first. I did and loved it. Got as far as Saturn Village.

Then went and bought it. Ended up getting all the way to Lost Lands? Or what ever the name of the dinosaur land. And accidently earsing my save game.

And yet I didn't get bored at all when I played it again and beat it.

I loved the big box with manual. Sadly I lost the box during a move to another place.

I'd say that's an awesome quote to use.

This game... is more than a child's romp. I think it took me a long time to realize that as well.

After experiencing some of Mother 3, well. It became much more apparent that this series as a whole is a lot deeper than it seems.

And I swear, that story about the European release of Mother 3 better be true. Good enough for me, if it's in English.

Ironically, I lost interest in Xenogears a long time ago, and I regret that now. I have since lost my discs(not the original case+manual). So I'll probably rebuy that.

I'm glad I wasn't stupid, and still have my Earthbound cart, at least. I lost the player's guide and the cards.

The thing with Earthbound is it has a lot of character. People will shoot it down or **** all over it just because its a little light-hearted.

Every RPG we play doesn't have to be super mature, it definatly takes an open mind to enjoy, but once you do you'll probably fall in love with it.

I found it to be one of the few games, let alone RPGs, I would actually call, "charming".

Speaking of Mother 3, anyone see this Gamecube build?
