$249 has always been the Wii ceiling price estimate. I don't see what the problem is. The fact that they said "no more than" even indicates a possible $199. But regardless, it's an ideal seventh generation console price.
I got this off gamefaqs so dont blame me if its bs:
From WiishfulThinking:
"In a news conference today, Nintendo’s senior managing director, Yoshihiro Mori, stated that “the [Wii] won’t cost more than 25,000 yen” in Japan, or roughly $220. This makes a US price of $199 a very likely possibility, especially considering Nintendo’s history of pricing its home consoles at this point. If so, that would also make it the cheapest console launch price in history, adjusted to today’s dollars. Pretty exciting stuff, especially considering the pricetags of its competitors. ($500 or $600 for the PS3 packages and $300/$400 for the Xbox 360 as a refresher.) Hopefully we should be hearing relatively soon from Nintendo about its final Wii pricing plans for the US!"
Compared to the other consoles, it would be retarded to ***** about a 250$ price tag. For the whole package I bet its worth it for Zelda and MP3 alone.
Hell, I spent 400$ on a 360 just for DOA4, so tell me, which is a better deal.

Not to mention that you have access to Nintendo's retro library online and it is Gamecube-backwards compatible. Almost THAT alone is worth $250.
I'm thinking about unloading my Gamecube and all of my games but SSBM and Animal Crossing to use as store credit for the Wii.
Toss Animal Crossing into the pile. A new one's coming for Wii.
There's also the potentially-bundled Opera browser (They said it wouldn't be sold seperately), and, if it's got a mic in addition to the speaker, possible VIOP functions.
Speaking of which, they've confirmed that each Wii will come with a Wiimote and a Nunchuck. They didn't include the shell because obviously not everyone can take advantage of Wi-Fi and the VC service at launch.
That is all that needs to be said. People complaining about Wii being $250 is just stupid at this point. I have been a strong supporter of the PS for years, but seeing the price of the PS3 (among other things)... I am going for the Wii. I'm sorry, Sony, but you can go to hell.
I had to change accounts. I'm here now - http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/member.php?u=1475
Only $250? That's awesome considering how consoles have always been about $300, not to mention that the next gen stuff are more powerful than ever (and expensive).
For someone like me, who is going to spend $600 on the PS3, $400 for the 360, and $250 or whatever for the Wii...i can use it to be as cheap as possible. And that is a great price IMO.
And to be honest, for the people gripeing about the PS3 price...you might want to look at what you are getting for that price. I dont care if you say you arent going to get one...wait a year or two until the games start showing up that you want...you will find a way to save the money to pick one up, or just wait until it dips down to a more reasonable price range.
600 dollars is retardedly expensive. I dont think any arguments can be made why ANY system is worth 600.
yes we have an expensive hobby but anyone willing to pay 600 bucks for a PS3 is nuts especially when people ***** and moan about how high gas prices are going or they cant afford rent or they want a better car or insurance is too ****ing high.
600 dollars for a system just doesnt make enough sense. You need to hate your customers/fans to do that to them and you need to hate your money to spend it on one. Thats sadistic and malicious.
