E3 Inspired Next Gen System War Topic

Since Mora is yeling at everyone in the other E3 Topics who are talking about systems not in the topic name, let's just talk about it here.

So far I'm excited about for all 3 systems. The PS3's only drawback seems to be its price, but considering Blu-Ray players are like, a thousand backs at the moment, and I have a HDTV and make decent enough money, I'm not particularly concerned. I figured it'd be ballpark 500 bucks. 600 isn't bad. Everything else about the system is pretty smooth. The PS1 and PS2 had really amazing lifespans and good games every year they were out. I think it would be a good investment. And I don't particularly give a crap if they ripped off Nintendo and Microsoft with their controller design. Everyone rips off everyone in this industry.

Nintendo, king of innovation. The Wii still ****** me off with its lack of HDTV support. It doesn't **** EVERYONE off considering most people don't have HDTV, but it ****** me off since no HDTV things look like crap on this TV. And the name is still pretty stupid, though I'm getting used to it. Graphically it doesn't seem to look as good as even the XBox 360 let alone the PS3. But it definetly seems like it has great potential. I'm not used to playing games actively so I wonder if I'd like it all that much. I'm assuming I will.

I think XBox 360 is a good system, and I think their XBox Live is well thought out and put together. I doubt the other systems will have as good of an online service as Live. Though it bugs me that I'm not really excited about any of the XBox 360 games other than Halo 3.

I'll probably get all the systems. Bwahah.

For me, the 360 sounds the most interesting. From what I've heard, it's a very slick console and it actually has games announced that I, you know, WANT.

The Wii sounds very interesting, but I just don't care. I never got a Gamecube, and I never really thought about getting a Gamecube (except for that one stretch when I was addicted to Super Smash Brothers Melee that my friend had), so Nintendo isn't really in my headspace. Plus, I still feel like my totally inept coordination will make me suck hard at any game on it. I applaud the innovation, though.

As for the PS3, I feel like Sony just punched us all in the gut. I'll probably get one simply because of the exclusives I'm sure it'll have. However, if enough get ported over to the 360 I won't bother. The system doesn't excite me, and I can't imagine dropping over half a grand just on the system (I'll be very curious to see how much the inevitable packages go for. Bet at least one is 2 grand...) Sony is far too arrogant, but if they've got the games, they've got my money. But not until they do a couple price drops.

Like I'd mentioned earlier, 360 has the most games I'm really interested in...GTA4, Gears of War, Too Human, Blue Dragon, Alan Wake, Fable 2, Lost Planet, F.E.A.R. (didn't get to play for PC), Halo 3, and LUMINES. Its future lineup really appeals to the type of gamer I am.

PS3 is cool, but hella expensive. The 3 draws to me are Tekken, MGS4, and Final Fantasy...but for $600, I can wait a bit or rent one er something. Hopefully Sakagouchi's RPGs for the 360 will satisfy me not getting the next Final Fantasy immediately.

Then there's the Wii...yeah, I'll get it, if just for Nintendo's franchise games.

As far as who I think is going to win, well, I think it's a toss up between Wii and 360, depending on how big an install base the 360 achieves before this holiday season. It's too bad that it doesn't look like the 360 will a holiday barnburner to sell systems. In Japan, it'll be Blue Dragon that's going to sell systems, but I'm not sure what it'll be over here.

Well, at first I was like, PS3 got some gyroscope? Oh, it's mine. Then I saw how well the Wii-mote works and that the nunchaku (Sidenote: I didn't know that THEY were using that name.) has all the motion sensing as well and I was blown away. I'm still pumped for the possibility of some decent portability between PS3 and Nintendo DS.

As far as the conferences go, Nintendo > Sony > Microsoft.

Honestly, Microsoft just did not put on a great presentation. Being that the system is already out, there were no shockers, there were a lot of numbers and talk. One of the coolest announcements was that games would be able to go from console to PC seamlessly, and I'm not a big PC game fan.

Sony gave us the details which was nice, they had the same game footage type of thing going on and when they threw the controller on us, it was boner time. As soon as I beheld that it made Mini Chad dance. Seeing that plane game being played was pretty cool, and they definitely put their foot down on the rumors. The only thing is that I was looking forward to the boomerang, as it was rumored to be much more comfortable.

But the king, clearly prevailed. Nintendo set the stage. Literally, they set up a killer stage, and the first time that sonuva***** opened up I was amazed. The conducting entrance by Miyamoto was killer. As soon as my drum major room mate and I heard the tempo going crazy, it was clear he was really conducting, and that it was a cool possibly Nintendo game. And then they just kept going with the reels. They did the obligatory number run and they demo'd the Wii-mote well. It was amazing to see that turning it on it's side and holding it like a steering wheel DID something, and the Zelda stuff was pretty cool. But when they said that the nunchaku has motion sensing as well, it added a whole new level of depth. And depth sound, and a mic on the Wii-mote? Delicious.

Honestly, there were only a few 360 games that caught me. Too Human, obviously, Alan Wake and one of those shooters (although on 360, that's not much help).

PS3's got me by the balls now, with the MGS4 video (I'm probably the only one who likes Raiden, having played the second one first.), 8 Days, Final Fantasy XIII, Assassin's Creed, and a few more.

Nintendo also has some amazing games coming out, WarioWare, Twilight Princess, Project H.A.M.M.E.R., ExiteTRUCK, and more. Not to mention all the old games I never got to play/own that are going to be downloaded. I never owned a Super Nintendo. (Plus, my favorite game, Phantasy Star IV.)

In my opinion, 360 just got pimp slapped. But I know it'll survive. It's got Halo 3 and Oblivion, and honestly, what else has it ever needed (or sold)?
(Sidenote: I own two XBox games. Shenmue II and Jade Empire.)

Didn't we already have this conversation? Show me some gameplay, then I might get interested. I know it'll have a great plot, but I need to see the gameplay or it might as well just be a movie.

Plus I'm not the MGS ho you are.

Re: E3 Inspired Next Gen System War Topic

i enjoyed all the games nintendo showed off, and can see myself playing them. if the system is cheap, i will attempt to buy it.

sony didn't show me any games i just had to have, and yes, i saw mgs4. it looks good, but you can't hinge a 600 dollar system on just one game. nintendo gets **** for that alot. everything else was racing, racing, sports, racing, didn't interest me. and their theft of other consoles ideas dosn't seem like what the leader in gaming should do. at least not and try to take credit for it. i think they hurt their reputation. it was already pretty much known but not spoken about much that sony was built on the ideas of everybody else. this sort of shoved it to the forefront, and i don't think that'll wash off easy.

i still think x-box is bad for the industry in general. sonys new pricing policy is a prime example of what sort of influence microsoft has been having on the video game world. also, they're in it for the money, nothing else. and since they havn't made any yet, one wonders why they don't just LEAVE.

in the end though, i would be surprised if sony didn't change up their pricing, having "heard the call of the people". if they actually think 600 dollars is a good price, i feel bad for them.

Oh and was it just me, but did Microsoft show a seperate HD DVD player? That was un-360 related right?

no, the HD-DVD player is an add-on for the 360.

Nintendo - Stole the show and then some. All the games for Wii looked incredible, and I was shocked the nun-chuk has motion sensing also. I will pick it up at launch with as many games as I can afford.

Sony - I still plan on getting a PS3...but the fact they ripped nintendos idea off and on top of it, did a **** poor job I doubt Ill get one at launch. Not showing anything new with Killzone 2 was a huge dissapointment for me. (the price had no affect on me because I was expecting to pay more, 200$ more in fact.)

Microsoft - I forgot they was at E3 until the Halo 3 stuff started popping up. Thats cool I guess, same boring gameplay with new graphics. I don't own a 360 and I don't plan on picking one up.

I haven't seen the Microsoft or Sony conferences, nor have I read up on them, nor have I payed much attention to what's coming on them. But between the two, I'm actually more interested in the 360 right now. Granted, the system will likely be doing crap in Japan, but it'll be tough competition in the Americas. PS3 meanwhile is a wild card. It's got the namesake, and a kinda nifty controller, and a few big-name titles. But it's also got that price. Even if you do make a lot of money, I can't see many people becoming early adopters of the system. For $500+, though, the system better be in flawless working condition!

Meanwhile, I'm most interested in Nintendo's system, by far. Granted, I've always been a Nintendo fan, but this generation excites me more than ever. New (likely $300 or less) console, a freaking cool controller, some fun-looking games (some likely at launch or shortly after), and the Virtual Console. But then I'm also looking at the DS. A new Zelda, a new Kirby, Yoshi's Island 2, Star Fox DS... Yes, this will be a fun year.

The last American game I actually owned was The Sims, so Microsoft has some ****ing ground to cover.

You know Kire, that's what I thought, but I didn't want to believe it.

There goes the price of the 360 for full functionality. Let's see, 360 premium = 400 (or was it 450) plus HD-DVD player. Isn't that just shy of PS3 range pricing? And no degree of motion sensing.

I thought they all had great showings, I'll be getting all three...but not the PS3 for a while until it gets cheaper, sorry but MGS4 isn't worth 600 bucks.

I'm a bit dissapointed the rumored 360 price drop didn't happen, though.

                            I also don't give a damn about blu-ray or HD-DVD.

I didn't know the 360 didn't have HD-DVD movie playback out of the box, but I won't worry about that for now. Nobody even knows what the dominating media will wind up being.
