    Scariest Game Series

Reading Loki's Silent Hill chronicle has got me wanting a good scare. But which survival horror series is the scariest? At various times from various sources I've heard Silent Hill, Clock Tower, Fatal Frame, and even F.E.A.R. referred to as the scariest video game ever. I've only played SH so I don't know. Help me out if you've played these series. And let me know why.

Echo Night: Beyond. the game's atmosphere is just too damn creepy for me to finish. It's a very unique experience, There's nothing to fight in the game, the game just attempts to scare your character to death. does a damn good job of it too.

It's Resident Evil for me. Especially the GameCube remakes. Whenever any new Resident Evil game came out, me and my friends would all play it in the dark. I remember the entire room erupted in a great big shout that woke our neighbors whenever dogs crashed through windows or those lizard monsters suddenly jumped at us.

But the biggest scare had to be that big cloaked monster who appeared in Resident Evil 2--when you play through with another character after you've beaten the first campaign. In fact, one of my younger friends started to cry after that thing suddenly broke through the wall in one of the office rooms, then surprised us again when we began to leave. We couldn't kill it, obviously, so our only option was to run.

For me, it's not so much the dark atmosphere of the games. It's all about the suspense....the feeling of not knowing when a zombie (or any other sort of creature for that matter) is going to attack you. This may apply to all other games of this type, too. I chose Resident Evil because it's the only game of its kind that I'm totally familiar with. (And it's my favorite series!)

I thought about Alone in the Dark--the original one was creepy. But Resident Evil took it one step further and created the survival horror genre in and of itself. So.....yeah. Resident Evil. It rocks.

Hmmm, it is a tough choice, but I would have to say one of two games.

Fatal Frame 3 or Clock Tower 1.

Overall, probably Clock Tower, since I am still scared of the music that plays when ever Sissor Man comes close.

Fatal Frame series has a real tense mood and some crazy scary ghosts.

Silent Hill really messes with your mind, and Silent Hill 2 is probably best one.

Resident Evil never really scared me.

Siren might have been good, if it wasn't for the unforgivable gameplay.

Anyone play Mansion of Hidden Souls? It was one of my favorite scary games on the Sega Cd. It had no battles, and only one death scene, but it still had such a creep feel to it.

The Dagger of Amon Ra was a murder mystery, but it still had such a scary mood where the murderer could be anywhere. And when you had to hide from him at the end, made for a real scary experience.

I haven't played Haunting Grounds or Rule of Rose yet. But I hear they are pretty scary in their own right.

F.E.A.R really disappointed me, in that from the trailer, it looked like it was going to be really scary. But in the full game, they spaced the scares too far and used too many similar scares. It started being easy to know what scare was going to happen next.

I'd say RE, seeing as how that's the only one i've played.

Echo Night, for me, boiled down to running for the lightswitch as fast as possible in each room.

I remember The 7th Guest freaking me out pretty bad. I hated the hand in the painting and the clown in the game room...

Resident Evil 4 wasn't all that scary, but it was mucho fun. I didn't play 2,or 3, or Code Veronica, so I have no clue who Ada and Krauser were.

But as it stands now, Silent Hill all the way. I strongly recommend the rest of the series and the first half of 4.

I see Resident Evil as more badass than scary. And Silent Hill is a little more disturbing than scary. Fatal Frame was the only game to scare the **** outta me. (Even though that was around 4 years ago.)

                  Re: Scariest Game Series

At first, Resident Evil was scary for me (well, just RE1 at least). The sequels just seemed more like a slasher film. It was gory but not scary. RE4 got some of the scary feeling back at some parts, but still wasn't as scary.

Silent Hill, i really only played SH2. That was a freaky experience. The bad things didn't happen because of science like RE, it was just already ****** up to begin with. Also the lack of powerful military weapons (no rocket launchers, sub machine guns ect) and the main characters not being highly trained soldiers but instead were just regular people made the feeling more believable than RE. Plus Pyramid Head was just plain awesome.

Haunting Ground was a real unique horror game to me. The girl you played as couldn't fight at all, and your dog could never actually kill any of the bad guys that constantly chased you, just stun them (they will fall when enough damage is dealt, but they quickly get back up). Aside from all the running, hiding, and puzzle solving, the story segments of the game were what really stood out for me (besides Fiona's incredibly bouncy chest). One thing I really noticed was how well the facial expressions of the characters were animated during cut scenes. But overall, the game is more disturbing at certain spots than scary.

I never even played any of the other games listed on the pole. I wish I at least played Alone In The Dark.

RE never scared me that much. Not at all really. Maybe some of the music.

                    Haven't played the others.

Resident Evil had some jump scares, like stuff jumping out at you or loud noises.

I think the main reason SH is so scary is it really immerses you in the game. With the flashlight being your only light in most areas and the sound forcing you to pay close attention at all times. And you have the whole city around you not like in some games where you're almost never outdoors.

IMO, Silent Hill series is the way to go. They have some really scary and disturbing ****. Though, I think SH2 and 4 aren't very scary, they sure are disturbing.

The game Haunting Ground kind of disapointed me. At first I was consumed by the graphics and the eerieness of it. After a while, running away from that sexually frustrated hunchback got really annoying. But most disturbing thing of all is when he kills you. You hear him make very... strange noises, which makes obvious what he is doing. That is when I stopped playing.

Silent Hill is cerebral, primal and chilling. Elegant horror.

Res Evil is adrenaline scares and action.

Both have terrific style and charm but Silent Hill is, by far, the scariest.
