    2D fighting game discussion

recently i've been playing SFIII: third strike, loving it and wondering if anybody here loves 2D fighting games as much as i do.

does anybody have any old favorites? new favorites? any favorite characters? capcom pretty much owns the entire genre, but surely there's gotta be snk fans here too. samurai shodown, king of fighters(the 3D game maximum impact was a stain!), mark of the wolves.. that's all i can think of right now.

    discuss.

The Street Fighter games are probably the only fighting games I'm kinda-sorta-decent at. Street Fighter III and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are my lovers.

    My fave characters in SFIII:
    Ryu
    Ken
    Q
    Sean
    Akuma

    My fave MvC2 characters:
    Ryu
    Ken
    Spider-Man
    Sakura
    Rogue
    Jill Valentine
    Psylocke
    BOOONE CLAWWW Wolverine
    Mega Man
    Servbot

I like Street Fighter, but I don't have much experience with the games. I just play it whenever my brother-in-law is over or whever I'm up in St. Louis visiting him. He's a SF fanatic (Capcom fanatic, in general, actually).

My favorite 2D fighters are Guilty Gear X and Darkstalkers 3. My favorite characters in those games are (GGX: ) Millia, Chipp, Baiken, (D3: ) Jedah, Morrigan, and Hsien-Ko. But I like to play around with all of the characters; I'm not really an expert with any of them. You definitely wouldn't find me at any sort of official tournament.

I used to be pretty damn good with Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, but that was ages ago....

Other than that, I haven't played many. Though I'd like to play/own more 2D fighters.

Guilty Gear X is my favorite. It has style and fluid gameplay.

I never played many 2d fighters or many 3d fighters for that matter. Never liked SF mostly cause whenever I played with my cousin it was just a half hour of me stuck in the corner getting pummeled by Hadou-ken. The 2D fighters I did really like: Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat (more for the characters than the gameplay), Killer Instinct (I liked the combo system).
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

You can parry Hadoukens in SFIII.

I haven't been able to get my hands on any incarnation of SF3 yet. But I have to say I love Street Fighter Alpha 3. I have fun using Ken and being able to own the computer on the highest difficulty(though it doesn't happen a lot). I also use Dan Hibiki a lot, though I use him just for fun.

Dramatic Battle has got to be the best mode ever.

my favorite characters in SFIII: Third Strike would be: Ryu, Chun-Li & Twelve. Ryu is easy to pick-up and master just because his moves have been ingrained in my head since SFII came out on snes(i was never an arcade person). Chun-Li is my beautiful streak queen. i'll play her against some of my friends and win 5-10 matches in a row regularly. Twelve helps me stay interested with his irregular move set. he's fun to play because he's different.

Ken is okay because i like his medium/high kicks and his dragon punch is powerful(and flashy). i play as Q sometimes. he's odd, a little too tall, but strong. some of his standing punch attacks fly right over people's heads because of his height. it's weird to work around that and make him play decent. i don't like Sean so much, but he's alright. his hadou-burst super builds up pretty fast. he's like a half-copy of Ryu, Ken & Akuma, but not as good. speaking of Akuma, he's deadly. my friend plays as Akuma all the time and i can see why you'd like him. he's got a variety of moves, he's faster than Ryu or Ken and just as powerful.

i played it on dreamcast a long while back and i remember having fun with it. the gameplay is definitely reminiscent of a well-tuned capcom fighter. i guess it's worth $100 if you have that kind of cash to spend.. terry bogard is playable and they have a ninja, my favorite!(Hokutomaru)

I hate guilty gear! the character design and graphics are beautiful and the sprite animation makes me want to like it, but nope. it just doesn't have that flow like an SNK or Capcom game would. and you have to press a button to turn around(guilty gear isuka)! you're on a 2D plane, why would i need a button to look the right direction? it's either east or west.

Darkstalkers is fun. neat characters and gameplay. though i haven't extensively played any one title that series. Capcom released a Vampire Savior Collection over in japan on PS2, but it was never released in the U.S. it had all the Darkstalker games on one disc...
