ZOMG
In a nice surprise, Atlus today announced that it has acquired the publishing rights to Contact, a DS RPG developed by Grasshopper, of Killer 7 fame. Atlus also announced that it will be publishing Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation and Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2, both for the Game Boy Advance. The Super Robot Taisen strategy RPG series has been going strong in Japan for over 15 years, but amazingly these will be the first titles to make it to the US.
Contact and the first Original Generation are set to be released this summer, while Original Generation 2 will be coming out this fall.
In Contact, a man simply called "The Professor" enlists your help after his spaceship crash lands on a strange planet. The parts that power his ship, called Cells, have been scattered across the planet. The Professor and a brave young man named Terry will use "the Nintendo DS to 'contact' you" as you try to find all the cells before a mysterious organization does.
The press release promises lots of different activities to keep you busy along the way, such as fishing, hunting, animal-training, and monster-hunting, as well as "old-school mini-games." Contact's battles will be real-time.
"Contact is the rare breed of quirky RPG that attracts a rabid fanbase with its whacked-out story, setting, and characters," said Tomm Hulett, Project Lead for Atlus U.S.A., Inc. "I'm excited that gamers will be able to spread the fever to thousands of others with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."
As for those curious about Super Robot Taisen - the story starts when a "meteor" lands on earth. Scientists who investigate the meteor discover that it contains technology foreign to man. After setting up a committee to further investigate the technology, it's determined that the creators of the meteor will likely be coming to earth to reclaim their technology (not peacefully, mind you). After Dr. Bian Zoldark, head of the committee, suggests that action to be taken to defend earth against such an invasion, and thus, mobile humanoid soldiers called Personal Troopers are born.
Some of the key features include a detailed combat system that allows for support techniques and weapon swapping, dozens of customizable mecha, and a promised 40+ hours of Strategy RPG goodness.
