    Re: FF4 Advance

You mean so you can't see it and it's just current/max HP? No.

Rumor has it that if you turn down the battle speed it doesn't glitch like that. Haven't noticed any difference yet.

      Re: FF4 Advance

God damn this game has to be the most glitch filled game I've ever played. I've been trying to complete the beastiery and after hours of searching the sealed cave for a yellow dragon all I've fought is stupid bats. And searching for a centipede in the Underground has yeilded dozens of Doom Flowers. I keep expecting my airship to land without a trunk.

Oh yeah and it does seem that the ATB fixes itself if you set it to the default speed.

I didn't find any real glitches that weren't in the original game. The ATB is kind of goofy, but it's always been that way, and it's just more obvious since the bars are visible now.

I seem to recall instances where characters got double-turns in the original. I've also noticed occasional hiccups in the movements of the ATB guages, and I'm willing to bet that happens when the game pauses to let an enemy decide to do nothing (such as the fungus/pollon-looking thing you see in the cave before Damcyan). Really, I haven't noticed any differences in gameplay over the PS1 game. And so far I've beaten...um, the -lione guy, the Earth...um, whatever they're called that isn't Fiend anymore. So, I've gotten Cecil's legendary sword, which probably isn't called Legend anymore, but I haven't checked.

              Re: FF4 Advance

I'm fairly confident that the ATB never was as screwy as this one is. At least not on the SNES. At the very least I wasn't getting the monster party encounter problems. I mean the mist cave was filled with goblins and only goblins. No caterpillers or moths to be found. That's just not right.

                Re: FF4 Advance

This game isn't any more glitched than the original, I agree with BZ, the bars make things more apparent now. Its the same game, same code.

The only thing to keep in mind is that encounter rates of rare monsters are even more rare. This is not a glitch, it's normal. Its more of a challenge to find certain things.

For example, in the PSX version I could get the ****atrice summon in under an hour. In this version it took three days.

I fought quite a few different monsters in the mist cave, and only one or two Goblins tops.

So there is nothing wrong with the game, it just uses the odds from the original hard type version instead of the easy type version.

However, there are a ton of defective copies out. You'll know your copy is defective if you have slowdown during battles.

I havn't had any slowdown yet, but are you sure it's defective copies and not a artifact of the port?

                    Re: FF4 Advance

I'm sure. I've not had any slowdown at all. A review I read docked the game a point or two due to huge slowdown during battles. In the Gamefaqs board some people have this problem, others don't. This leads me to believe that either:

A.) The save system may be glitched, perhaps erasing the ROM Memory may fix it.

                    or

                    B.) Some copies are defective.

Folks at the Gamefaqs board is considering copies with slowdown to be defective. I myself have not had any problems, I am at the very end of the game. I must have fought a couple thousand battles at least.

                      Re: FF4 Advance

I wonder if Lacroix is just expressing his opinions again. Apparently there is great debate as to what exact version this game is. I highly doubt that it's a direct port of the Japanese port. Most people seem to be going for a Wonderswan port. There is also debate about what the problems people are getting exactly are, glitches in programing or the fact that it's a gba emulating a snes or wonderswan or whatever. I think there's some issues with my DS emulating a gba emulating a snes.

Also I have not one encounter with anything ANYTHING other than one enemy in several areas no matter how many times I fight them so I find it hard to blame it on encounter rates. Maybe I do have a bad copy, but I've never had any slowdown.

Also I came up with this really cool slam of Lacroix, but it doesn't really fit with the flow and context of the post anymore so I'm just tacking it on the end.

He wouldn't accept anything other than his opinions without the expressed written consent of no less than three employee's of Square. Not even if god himself camedown and handed him it on a tablet like an eleventh commandment.

                          Re: FF4 Advance

I encoutnered more than just goblins in the Mist Cave. And aside from floating enemies apparently floating at a slower speed in battle than they do in the bestiary, I haven't really encountered any slowdown. Although some of the spell effects seem slow to me, it hasn't caused any problems.

There's so many different versions of FF4 out there, one can't tell which version this is based off of, or if it's its own version. There were the Easy Type and Hard Type in Japan, with us I think getting the Easy Type. The PS1 as I understand it is based off of the Hard Type with a few things from the Easy Type thrown in. I don't know about the WonderSwan Color version, but FF4 Advance's graphics are definately based off of the WSC version. But then, so were FFI&II Advance, and that game was nothing like any other version of FFI and/or II.
