Same. Taiko Drum Master, DDR, Yanya Cabalista, Gitaroo Man, Guitar Hero.... if a game needs it own controller, it's usually a fun and refreshing game. Although Cabalista was a BIT of a letdown.
Don't forget about the other rhythm games like Donkey Konga, Rez, and the games that led up to Guitar Heroes (Amplitude and... shoot I forgot the game before that). Personally I prefer Taiko because it's more cute and bizarre.
I agree, Marcus. Sorry about missing those.
Still, for bizarreness, try killing aliens with skateboard tricks (Yanya Cabalista...where my avvie came from.) Made by the same people who made Gitaroo Man (Koei).
Too bad the american version of Taiko is filled with horrible songs. The JP versions always have much better tunes and more interesting music.
I'm interested in Guitar Hero, but I have similar concerns. So, how's the music? Does it sound good or is it more like stuff you'd hear at a karaoke bar (bad singers, bad covers)?

The music is actually pretty freaking excellent. Of course they're all covers but theyre probably the most accurate covers I've ever heard.
http://www.guitarherogame.com/music.asp has some of the songs from the game on it, the cover versions. So you can listen to them. They're pretty good covers, save for a few (the Take me Out singer is really offkey).
Anyway, this game rocks my ass off. Me Manyak and Flatliner jammed on it for like 6 or 7 hours straight this weekend until our hands went numb. My favorite game in recent memory, Harmonix never disappoints.
On that note **** Bark at the Moon on Hard jesus christ
