    Re: Rejected XBox 360 Designs

We've had a 360 in our warehouse (demo model) for a few weeks now, and I must say, it's a lot larger than the pictures make it seem. I kind of wish they would make consoles at least the same size as industry standard dimensions, so at least you could put it on top of a DVD player or something without it looking like trash. That's what I liked most about the PS2.
    Do what you wish

They will probably all break down anyway pretty fast. Look for a sign such as 2 year warranty. That means it will break down in two years. I guess I could be wrong, and if that is the case could you guys tell me which system doesn't break down. If it isn't made cheap then I would like to get it.
Xplay did a test on the system's durability. They dropped all three systems from a 30ft drop, smashed them with a sledge hammer, and ran over them or something. The ps2 was destroyed on the first test and the gamecube and xbox survived all 3 (but the xbox's light no longer worked). I was surprised the box didn't break first because it has a harddrive in it.

As far as systems lasting the longest, the first edition models of the ps2 SUCKED. I bought one at the launch date which happened to be my birthday (NEVER AGAIN SONY) and it busted 2 years later when I tried to play rpgm2 and it wouldn't read the blue disc. Then it overheated and exploded... it literally sparked and caught on fire. I've had my xbox and gamecube since launch, absolutely no problems.

if I remember correctly, the Xbox did not survive the final test. it still worked to some degree, but not well enough to play a game.

I agree. It would be amazing if the disk didn't move at all while the 360 spins around it.

Now that I think about it, I think the last test severed the power switch or something.

Yea, Nintendo makes some durable gizmos. I can't count the amount of times I've dropped my DS without a scratch knowing if I did the same with my PSP it'd snap in half.

I just looked on ebay for the Xbox 360 for the hell of it and people are paying like $600.00 and up for PRE SALES of the stupid system. Can't they just go buy one on the day it comes out like everyone else that wants one? why would they pay so much more? I don't get it.

They all look like suitcases of tomorrow. At least the chosen design looks somewhat like a console.

I'm not bashing Sony, in fact the PSP is my favorite handheld. They just made the thing too glossy (you hardly touch it and your fingerprints slide across the screen greasing the whole thing up) and there's no real place to grip the thing so you have to tentatively hold it or else it will slide out of your hand. I'm in the Navy so I play this thing on rocking boats, in Subways, and on Greyhound buses so the only way to avoid dropping it is by playing it in it's case. It's also VERY delicate meaning if you drop it even from 5 feet... well, RIP PSP.. It wasn't designed for hyperactive 12 year olds, that's for sure.

Remember the PS2 launch days? On launch the thing was going up towards $1200+ on ebay. I was actually considering buying a second one just to make a quick buck but the pimple faced cashier at target said one-per-customer only so I skulked away.

It wasn't really designed well at all, was it.

I disagree with that. Besides the glossyness, everything is solid. You can't really screw up designing an oval shaped object with four face buttons, a d-pad, and shoulder buttons. I like the button shortcuts (press a button and immediately access your media or sound folder), the sound and home buttons actually let you view the volume bar of your game, you can easily turn off the wi-fi to conserve batteries, and the sleep mode is awesome (you can completely turn off the system and the game auto-saves your location until you turn the machine back on).

I have yet to see a handheld that was poorly designed. Even WONDERSWAN and ZOMG NEOGEO POCKET were well thought out.

As far as the next gen console designs go; I hope they don't have faulty AV switches. It seemed every month a magazine article came out complaining about the plugs (my ps2 audio/video plug needs jiggling to work properly). Also, I think every console should be able to stand on it's side. The ps3 doesn't look like it'll be possible but thankfully the revolution and 360 are on their sides by default.
