    Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow

Just picked this up tonight and I've logged in a few hours. Yeah, it's pretty awesome all around. The music rocks, the graphics rock, the story rocks, and the gameplay rocks. Having the map on the top screen at all times is nice. Using the touchscreen works better than I expected for the seals. It's not like you have to do it perfectly like on that boss in Kirby CC. The ice breaking thing works too but, you have to take your finger off the buttons. I haven't had to use them while breaking ice but, it would be kind of tough if I had to kill enemies while breaking blocks too.

I really like all the weapons you get too. You have katanas, spears, knives, battle axes, small swords, and big ass two handed swords and Yoko can upgrade them with souls you catch. There are also familiars in the game.

There's also some kind of two player race mode that I haven't tried.

I will drool profusely on Gus's behalf until he is able to post here.

Heh, Harmony Of Dissonance is strangly left out.

I actually thought the N64 castlevanias had some damn good ideas, as did bloodlines.

            But apparently IGA DIDN'T AGREE!

Harmony of Dissonance didn't agree with me. The tinny sound and the blah level design frustrated and bored me so I never finished it.

I actualy kinda like Harmony. It's a good ol throwback to the orginal. Kinda fun.

                Kinda.

                  I will drool, too!

I also heard that the effects of your souls upgrade the more souls you collect, which was the very feature I thought was missing from Aria of Sorrow.

I also thought Harmony wasn't as cool as the other GBA Castlevania games. Sure, it was better than 99% of all other GBA games, but if I wanted to walk in straight lines, jump and whip everything that moves to GBC-era sound, I would have played the originals, which were more difficult and thus less brainless. Harmony's biggest thrill was seeing new enemies in action.

                    Re: Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow

and man, did the boss designs suck in Harmony. They were all just big versions of common enemies.

                      Exactly.

Which is why Aria of Sorrow blew me out of the water. A perfect blend of graphics, sound, gameplay and design. Like Konami was like "YEAH, NOW WE GOT IT!" and they came over and massaged me with Medusa Heads.

Which Castlevania was it where you could dash in both directions with the shoulder buttons? I remember it being the one cool part of whichever game it was.

That was HOD. DS has the same thing but, just backwards.

Err... kinda. They're remakes of the bosses from the orginal games. That's why the design sucks, but the concept is kinda cool.
