    Class of Heroes 3(D)

This was a PSP game, obviously third in the series, which was (is yet to be?) ported to the JP PSN, came out (is coming out) on a retail PS3 disc, and is now apparently gonna get ported to the 3DS.

In my Wizardry research of late, I came across the nugget that the first CoH was actually a port of a JP PS2 Wizardry title, with anime-fied characters. The next two were their own games. I know this will turn off Toaster even more to the imminent arrival of Wizardry on PSN, but I'm thinking I need to give the first CoH another chance. I went into it expecting something like EO, and when it wasn't, it let me down. But now that I'm heavily into Wizardry, I feel like I should give it another chance.

Depending on release schedule, this might be a good testing ground for the already-announced 3DS port of SMT: Strange Journey, and the supposedly forthcoming next EO game on the 3DS.

I tried the first CoH, couldn't get into it unfortunately. I even got really good stats and everything. but the level design was boring and really ugly. It felt to me like I couldn't put any imagination into it.

My big issue was that both of the dungeon floors unlocked from the beginning were, at the time, confusing as hell. Again, I kinda went into it with an EO mindset. Now that I've played both of the PSN Wizardry games, I think I have more of a mindset and understanding of how things work. I mean, if I can progress more than 50 hours into both Wizardry games combined, and neither is in English, I feel that CoH deserves another shot. The Dark Spire, too, for that matter. But that's still a brutally difficult game, and if I remember from what I played, involves a LOT of grindy-grindy to avoid getting decimated in even the first floor of the dungeon.

You know, I've tried to get into a number of the throwback Western genres that Japanese developers are continuing, like roguelikes, and first person dungeon crawls, but the first person dungeon crawls are the ones that stuck. I think that might have something to do with having an increasingly low tolerance for long RPGs with detailed storylines, because if I choose to play those for a while and then put them down for a while, I always feel the need to start from the beginning again when I pick them up again so I can remember what it going on. Then I make the decision that it's not worth the effort, and never end up playing any more of it.

First person dungeon crawls are great for me, because I can focus on the micromanagement stuff, and not worry about setting them down and picking them up later, as the storyline is usually fairly minimal.

So, yeah...instead of referencing my playing this in every topic, I'll just post here instead. My characters are now mostly all levels 7-8. Played last night, put it down, picked it up today on the way to work, and the game froze on me. Hit the home button, and it would not go back to the XMB. Had to resort to popping the battery out. Put the game and battery back in, and now it will not even recognize the disc...it keeps trying to load it, even when I begin listening to music from the memory stick.

Anyone know how to fix this, or what could be wrong?

Does your PSP run games that are installed on your memorystick?
