Betting against Nintendo in the handheld market is risky business. Keep in mind that even though the DS handily beat the PSP this gen, the PSP sold more than any other non-Nintendo handheld before it. As in, 5 times more (and no doubt six before it's all said and done). That's the level of domination we're talking about here in Nintendo's past. Sony sold one system for every two Nintendo did and it was a massive improvement over every past effort.

That said, nothing lasts forever. They've owned the market for 20 years, and eventually they'll get passed by. I just don't think the 3DS is where it'll come apart, unless this thing goes full-on Virtual Boy and starts giving people Scanners-level headaches.

I see no way the 3DS can fail. It's a pretty damn awesome piece of tech, it's got a ton of support already, and it looks like it'll have the strongest launch lineup ever. if it gave people headaches, the developers would know, and like with the virtual boy, they would NOT be making games for it.

I hope the next PSP does well. While the PSP's hardware sales were pretty good, the software sales have NEVER been good outside of japan, thanks to the rampant piracy. If they can prevent that from happening, they could have a good shot at doing well.

Only way to do that is to go all-digital when it comes to games... maybe even have games in the cloud~

This is what killed the system. Homebrew and piracy.

I can see them going all digital. I think it would be a smart move, as long as it's that way from the start.

Do you have any homebrew on your PSP, Toaster?

DS has homebrew and piracy too. Not just for super-savvy techies either. Fat dumb casuals all over have easy-access R4 cards and the like.

I think PSP having no games for 3-4 years aside from Lumines and other niche stuff, and Slowpoke support from Sony to this day is the bigger problem.

DS's higher marketshare and generally younger demographic make it's piracy a much smaller issue.

I did, for the emulators and to try out games before I bought them, but then the homebrew scene became a huge-cluster**** and games I physically owned stopped working.

Developer's just don't support the system because of the rampant piracy, except for a few like Square-Enix and Capcom with their Monster Hunters because Japan, ATLUS because they have their niche, and X-Seed godbless them for releasing the Ys series on a doomed device which somehow aren't ports of ports of ports--but games on the system they were developed for. That hasn't happened since... like... Ys Books I & II.

PSP is huge in Japan because of ad hoc. Thats why most PSP games offer multiplayer, but not online play.

This may be the PSP2/PSP Phone.

1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (a chip similar to the one found in the G2, but 200MHz faster), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches. The handset does indeed have a long touchpad in the center which is apparently multitouch. There's no Memory Stick slot here, but there is support for microSD cards.

I doubt PSP2 will be backwards compatible, simply because Sony is the spawn of Satan. Look at the Ps3 "slim", Sony went on and on about all the stupid little updates to this new version, but they neglected to mention the little detail about cutting backwords compatibility for Ps2 games aside from downloading them off PSN. My friend actually returned it to the store and went garage sale hunting for an older model. I always hated Sony, but this move really ****** me off.

I just hope they don't try and load the PSP2 with a bunch of useless apps/gadgets like a cellphone.

I really wouldn't buy anything like that.

I think you may have some of your info confused.

                                1. Sony cut PS2 backward compatibility from PS3 long before the slim model came out.
                                2. PS2 games are not on PSN.
                                3. Sony is not the spawn of Satan. They're totally down with Jesus.
