Re: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

So what sets the bar for the short-game console experience?

Offhand, the only one I can think of is Ico, at a little over 5 hours. It feels right.
So you're a fish out of water...
    Keep swimming.
    What else can you do?

Re: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

I played for a bit last night. Turned it off when I was in a room with a Destroyer (?) mech who kept running into a wall, and I had to blast his head, but ran out of charges.

So far, I like the story, and even though the combat and "platforming" is not overly complex, for someone like myself, that's a good thing. Games like God of War or even something like Uncharted have a few too many button combinations to worry about. My action gaming muscles have atrophied, so something streamlined like Enslaved is more my speed.

Do I need to keep name-checking this one? :3

I was listening to podcasts while I grinded~

Also I think there was some built-in forgiveness toward them since they're ****-old.

There's exceptions to every rule. Sometimes length actually does kill a game, and sometimes it's actually warranted. I spent over 200 hours on two play-throughs of Persona 4.

Beat the game last night, loved the game. Has a really beautiful song during the credits.

I REALLY recommend this game, its definetly GOTY material.

Its getting a Pigsy DLC, if it does well, we'll get more. I hope it gets a sequel, the characters are incredibly likeable, with a well written script. Its based off the "Journey to the West" a Chinese tale about a Buddhist monk's travels.

                  Super duper ending spoilers

                  *** SPOILERS ***

The game takes place some hundred odd years after a massive global war, Machines used during said war are still running around killing anything they find, following out their programming. Throughout the early levels you see anti-war posters and grafitti.

Midway through the game, Pigsy takes you to a "titan graveyard". A graveyard where titans(Giant robots) always go to die. Genuinely awesome moment was walking through said graveyard, and seeing a single Titans eye following you as you enter(Despite being 'dead' and rusting, its still functioning).

The 'Slavers' is actually a small faction lead by a single man. You can tell his faction by the fact that his machines aren't rusted(ie. they're new/maintained). Anyways, this man calls himself "Pyramid" and forces the captured humans into a false reality. Literally sharing his memories from before the world, so that they can be happy. Monkey sees his visions, Trip pulls him out of it.

We're left with Pyramid dying, and 1000s of enslaved waking up from the dream. Trip asks monkey if she "Did the right thing". Leaving the plot open for a sequel(s). The relationship between them is never resolved.
