    My Wii is really loud

    Soooooo...as you know I don't play my Wii very much. Now, the DVD drive is loud as hell. Seems to be playing ok, but damn it's loud. My roommate said his dad had 2 Wiis bust on him. Diagnosis?

    I have the Nintendo curse.

    I'll tell you what's loud is the Wii start-up noise when the home screen opens up. I'm like WOW DON'T BOTHER MY ROOMATES and then I have to turn down the volume and then turn it back up when I start playing something.

    I haven't had the disc drive problem though, no.

      I agree with Kefka about the home screen noise but I havn't noticed my Wii making loud noises in general. Then again, I have the newer black model so maybe they made it better than before?

        Hey, this sounds sort of familiar.

        My three-year-old slim PS2 has been doing the same thing for the past several months. On startup it will make a short but very audible mechanical 'whirr' sound, and sometimes randomly it will make the sound at other times. When it does, something unusual is likely to happen to my game, and it differs from game to game. Most games simply freeze. Final Fantasy XII's screen goes black and actually tells me the disc is missing.

        I fix this by tapping the disc cover, or opening and shutting it. I hear the 'whirr' sound again, and after a moment, the game resumes (unless it doesn't, like Guitar Hero). Oddly enough, the eight-year-old fat PS2 I have, aside from the occasional DRE on startup, is problem-free and super-quiet.

        Anyone else experience this too?

        Anyway, as far as diagnosis, I used to have another, even older PS2, and it did the same thing Kire described. Sometimes the drives just get louder as the consoles age. Mine eventually broke, but because of a power supply problem and not the drive.

          My friend's wii does it, it's still operational. It's pretty annoying though.

            Does this on some games. Really annoying, but no louder than my PC or my PS3.

                This happened to my Mom's Wii.

                It's the early signs of the DVD drive dying.
                Take it to get looked at.
