Ripping DVDs and UMDs/PS1 games to PSP

Got my 16 gig memory stick in the mail from Amazon (took Valk's advice, and ended up getting it for a bit cheaper than he did...$58 and some change). I want to put some music on it, and the games/demos I downloaded from the Playstation Store. But I also want to rip some DVD box sets and some PS1 games onto the memory stick. Just got Vagrant Story from this guy at work, but playing it on the PS3 on an HDTV makes it look awful. Hoping to rip it to the PSP, because its resolution is a lot lower, so it might still look decent.

There's this Media Manager thing Sony sells, and it says it's able to transfer DVDs to PSP, but I don't quite believe that. Everything I would be ripping would be something I own.

Speaking of which, is it possible to rip UMDs? I'd like to rip a few of my games to the memory stick so I'm not constantly carrying around 3-4 UMD discs.

Any help (programs, etc) would be appreciated.

I'd tell you about PS1 game ripping, but I don't know Valk's legal stance on giving that advice in this forum.

As far as ripping your DVD onto your PSP, you'd need to first use a burning program such as Nero. But chances are, the DVD will be encrypted but there are workarounds for that. DVDs require a certain format for PSP or PS3... I know that much. I never really bothered with any of that though because the most common formats didn't work and I didn't feel like converting.

UMDs and PSX games can only be ripped onto your PSP if your have custom firmware. For the UMD, you can do that straight through your PSP and with a UMD cable. PSX games will require you to rip that image, then turn it into an eboot.

I can't implicitly tell you how to do any of this, in this forum. So you're just gonna have to perform some diligent Google searches.

Aslo: don't buy anything that the internet provides for free. I'm positive that the thing Sony is selling can be done for free, legally.

Vagrant Story shouldn't look ****ty if you're using texture smoothing, anyways.

Pirate Bays VIO Video Converter was great for this kind of stuff. It can take just about any kind of video file you have and make it into a handheld device format you pick off a list. So you just had to rip some movies from your DVDs(using another program of your choice), then use VIO to put it in a format for your PSP and away you go.

I used it to put my Jurrasic Park DVDs on my ipod for a long busride.

PB has been going through a bunch of stuff lately, as have a few other torrent sites, so the sites down right now. There probably other places to find it on the web though.

if you get custom firmware to be able to play your own PS1 and PSP games that werent bought from the Playstation Store, you pretty much have to decide you're okay with not being able to play any new games until around 2-3 months after they come out, and the custom firmware catches up to sony's firmware.

I decided I wasnt okay with that, so after using custom firmware for maybe a month, I went back to official firmware.

while various "how to do this" stuff cant be posted on this forum out of respect for game companies, it can be PMed.

Yeah, I've decided a while ago that I wasn't gonna get custom firmware. So I guess I'll be okay with not being able to play my meager PSX collection, and will end up having to drag a few UMDs with me. Those were not necessarily the big things I wished to do anyway. Mostly, I wanted some TV shows I have on box set to play on the PSP. I HAD a program that allowed file format changes to ipod/PSP format, so I'll see if I can reinstall that on the PC upstairs. Guess I still need to download DVD Shrink or something, though.

Anyway, thanks, guys, especially Mora. Worthless advice needs to be said twice~

I'll go ahead and lock this now to avoid any other piracy talk down the line.
