Although I did not enjoy Dark Cloud. I had heard good things so I picked it up used. I can only assume that the good things were directed at the sequel. Watching the ten minutes of cheesy dancers in the intro almost made me shut it off before I got to the gameplay.
The original Dark Cloud should be viewed as a tech demo. The combat system was fairly broken and it had literally no story to speak of save "rebuild the world." Its wonderful wonderful sequel was everything Dark Cloud should have been, with robust storytelling, charming characters, a rich, well-voiced narrative, pretty and fun graphics despite the cartoony cel-shaded nature, and a fun hack-and-slash combat system just deep enough to stay interesting for most of the game. Add that in with the rebuilding town element and the horrifically addicting weapon enhancement features they perfected from the original, and you've got a great little game.

I wouldn't push the original Dark Cloud on anybody, too much that looked good on paper but didn't translate well until they tried it and learned how to tweak it. Dark Cloud 2 was just awesome.

What about Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom (or whatever it's called)? Is that so bad it's good, or is that actually good?

Oh, and here's one: Custer's Revenge. It's so horribly bad on almost every level (especially considering the original price point) that it needs to be experienced at least once.

            Fracture IS pretty lame.

            You saw nothing.

I almost found a way to reach the second area of the demo without finishing the first. But they invisible-walled me.

I also learned that Fracture's protagonist is named Jet Brody. That's hilarious.

The worst game that I ever played was Dexters Laboratory Chess. On the GBC.

The AI was so laughably bad that I (a good player, but by no means world-class) beat the enemy on the hardest difficulty in a custom game where there side had all the pawns replaced with the piece from behind them, except for the king. Back then, they just didn't know how games worked.

How much is Dark Cloud 2 worth? If I ever come across it used, what's the roof of the worth range?

Probably not more than $20, but I dunno for sure, Mage.

                  http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used

                  Several for $17 after shipping.

GameStop lists it for $17 used if you can snag one from a local shop so you don't have to ship.

Or maybe they just couldn't squeeze a competent chess AI into the space allotted on a GBC cart.

Or maybe it was made for little kids / tweens who watched Dexter's Laboratory, so it was intentionally not difficult at all.
