It's even more ridiculous because the digital copy doesn't have to be manufactured or distributed at all.
I thought people were more ticked off because they decided to not use Deticated Servers for Modern warfare. Making a craptacular Peer 2 Peer online instead.

Yeah. But PSN and X Box LIVE, even the Wii Store (sorta). Given the choice I choose a download over a physical copy. Although it's nice to have a physical copy, unless you're a collector (Valk, Marcus) it's kind of a bust.

I'm pretty sure Activision controls the price for MW2, not Infinity Ward.

Indeed. Which is why, other than GHWT and the upcoming DJ Hero, I don't think I own a single Activision game. It helps that the genres they publish, other than ryhthm action, really don't interest me in the slightest. I know after I get DJ Hero, I'm pretty much done with the company.

Like I said, I expect the price I pay to reflect the packaging otherwise they should do away with the packaging altogether (which is what they're beginning to do!). But even without the packaging, manufacturing, and licensing costs they're still charging the same prices. Ridiculous.

There's so much to be angry about the direction Modern Warfare 2 is taking but Activision could make online a pay-2-play service and force you to spend $2 per level up and it'd still sell a billion copies.

You're right and I should have edited that in. Infinity Ward isn't to blame. Activision is the cancer in the market. Even EA has funded the creation of more original IPs in the last 2 years than Activision has in 5.

Producer: Okay, we need a cover but I don't want it to represent the game or be visually appealing in the slightest bit.
Artist: How about I stick a little girl on a floating swing that's completely frozen set over a generic city backdrop?
Producer: Brilliant! Here's $5, you have an hour.

But PC game development has the added difficulty of making sure it works on literally thousands of possible hardware configurations. Cause you know that some jerkwad with really weird setup is going to go to the game's forums and ***** up a storm about how it should work on his weird system cause he paid $50 for your lame-ass game.

Forgot to mention that the Australian version is $90. No, not 90 AUD, 90USD.

BTW this is for Steam. 90 USD for a ****ing digital game that you're forced to play if you happen to live in the land down under. And you know what? People will buy it.

But I digress, I derailed this thread long enough and will certainly avoid any "official modern warfare" topics that spring up.

This is the Japanese version of Uncharted 2. It wouldn't be a Japanese product if everyone wasn't dolled up and clean!

There's something I like about it. Remind me of an ol' point-and-click adventure game.

cover art still has a place. when im checking out new games i look for a cover that catches my eye. there is so much crap out there that you need something to give you hope. a well made cover convinces me to look deeper, if i like what i see on the back and the price seams to be worth the gamble then ill buy it. if the cover is horrid then id most likely never play it unless the name pops up through word of mouth or its something im looking to buy.

i also agree that good cover art is a great sign that whats inside is something that the produces might of cared about. if its slapped together or poor, then most likely the finished product isnt much better. the best cover art is crisp, and provocative.

i guess its also true that you shouldnt judge a book by its cover, or in this case a game. often times there has been very good or even chancy art and yet the game itself is a big steamer. many times the opposite has been true.

what do you guys think of the back plate? do we know if whats printed on the back is different too?

It's funny, in a lot of these cases I really enjoy the American version more than the Japanese version, except for Ico...but if I were younger I do not think the box of Japanese Ico would grab my attention at all.

Marvel comics and style influences a lot of the American style, dynamic poses, etc. We have "drawring the marvel way" all over our studio and are told to animate in those dynamic poses as well. Yes, it's true, Americans aren't for subtlety, and we are told to screw subtlety.

BTW, I think the Shattered Memories box is pretty damn cool.
