I hear you. But I like me a hack-in-slash sometimes. Again, I hear mixed reviews about Sacred II.

IMO, the friggin' Gauntlet series has a better background story than the Diablo series. But don't get me wrong, like I said, Diablo is one of the top dungeon-crawlers out there. Hell, Diablo II is still on shelves raking in profits... like KOEI is for their Warriors titles.

Oh, and BGII for the PC is packed with a better plot (in my opinion), but it is not as simple to play as Diablo I or II.
Diablo's story doesn't make any sense unless you read the manual. Once you do that you understand the whole mumbo jumbo behind the fallen angel, why Diablo does what he does, how the hero from the first game fell to Diablo's influence, etc. etc.

Blizzard's games are generally well written, they just hide the majority of the fluff in the manual so they don't bore people who just want to play the game.

Yes, yes, I read the manual and I know the story, but I still thought it was weak. But I do have to agree with that their games usually have a good story behind it. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness is one of my favorite Blizzard games of theirs, and I still love it even though it's ancient and operates in freakin' MS-DOS (you'd be surprised how much of a task it was for me to find a way to get Vista to play it...holy crap.).

It's fun, it's huge, decent depth with character-building...it looks REALLY nice. Only complaint I have is the PS3 version sometimes does get a bit stuttery when the screen is scrolling. Never had a problem with slowdown when a ton of enemies are on the screen, but for some reason, and I'm pretty sure it's not a frame-rate decrease, every now and again, it's like when you are walking, the ground/background is like a split-second behind in moving...like, it's a bit stuttery. It's not a game-breaker, though.

Aside from what marcus is saying about character builds, I really cannot see what complaints people would have.

I used to like the old Warriors titles from KOEI. I'm even guilty of owning of copies of Warriors Orochi 1 + 2, but enough is enough already... they really need to stop milking it already. And I really should try out Sacred 2 if it is my cup of tea or not...
