    Re: White Knight Chronicles

If people only review games they play to enjoy, the odds of the reviews being biased more favorably increases because it's a game they expected to enjoy.

On the other hand, people are more likely to buy games they expect to enjoy. I'd give MW2 a low ass score because nothing about it was enjoyable to me but 10 million people obviously disagree.

EGM had the ideal review set up by having 3 guys review a single product. If all three agreed that the game was good or bad then you got a pretty good opinion of what to expect. There were a few reviews that were radically mixed and those are the "fans of the genre only" games.

WKC has gotten lukewarm but overall above average reviews so, yeah, "fans of the genre only."

        Re: White Knight Chronicles

I'm talking about the inherent difference in how you'll percieve something depending on why you're observing it. Even a game they do enjoy, they have a different impression from reviewing it than they would if they'd just bought it for their own entertainment. And since, for the most part, the consumer always buys a game because they expect to enjoy it and plays it strictly for their enjoyment their experience is different from the reviewers on a fundamental level.

Regardless, reviews and other people's impressions are only good for learning the mechanics of the game. How much fun you'll have playing it is completely subjective. Even a game as broken as Ninjabread Man, I bet there are some people out there that enjoy it despite its countless flaws. Those people likely wear hats on their feet and shoes on their head but that's beside the point.

I wish you all understood that professional reviews are not always a good indication of how good a game is. I never said this game was the best thing ever, but it is alot more fun and interesting than most professional reviews make it out to be. But the discussion on this crap ended days ago, i only bumped this to let jspace and the others know that i wanted to add them so we could play together.

Actually, i'm pretty sure they made a Mummy game...but it probably REALLY sucked. Hell, i'm sure i'm gonna skip The Last Rebellion too, cause i've seen a video of the first 11 minutes of the game, and it looks, sounds and appears to play horrible.

Atleast WKC seems to have an interesting premise in its first 11 minutes, and the depth of the gameplay doesnt show immediately, which could turn people off.

I'm just gonna say again, that for those of you with the ability to rent, atleast RENT this game, i think you will be surprised that it is alot better than you have been made to think.

                        hey jero,

i added you to my WKC list as well. as i posted
earlier we normally gather at my georama. my
georama is level 5 atm, it houses farmers, miners,
warriors, and lumberjacks. we are around level
                        30ish-41.

we run quests up to GR 7 which is where i am
at this time. stop by anytime as we are always
hanging out in my geo. the room name is "what"
                        and the pw is "doug".

I've played up to the desert town, and I'm done with it.
I wanted to like it, but there is just nothing compelling about this game.

I played PSO once...don't need to play it again with semi-real time combat and current gen graphics.

I know this isn't an MMO (although it supposedly sorta plays like one), but I'm hedging my bets until FFXIV comes out. To again add fuel to Mora's fire, I'm probably not gonna pick up FFXIII or Versus XIII, but as of now, I'll end up getting FFXIV.

On topic...when WKC drops to like $20 in 8 months or so, I might pick it up. Sadly, I'm ALMOST more willing to give the PS3 version of Star Ocean a shot before this.

Maybe they'll get it right in WKC2. The sequel's already in the works, and if Level-5 has taught us anything they know how to at least receive criticism and improve upon flaws.

Jspace, i havent done any quests online yet, i've only played the single player, and the very first "online quest" that it give you that you can solo (the one where you have to kill 25 monsters).

I probably wouldnt be able to contribute much if i joined you guys in any games, but i can try. I'll probably be on tonight.
