Re: Is this what us hard-core gamers really ment?

I didn't see the episode, but perhaps they were taking a dig at the GameCube lineup by saying that Mario and Zelda are the most hardcore things on there? Which isn't quite fair, at least not anymore, because finally, a bunch of "real" games (as opposed to Link's Crossbow Training, Backyard Baseball, and Carnival Games XXVII) are actually hitting the system.

    Awesome comic that was, Crunk.

Sad, but so true. I wish I could rep you, but I needs to spread it around.

I actually find myself agreeing with tjoris to some extent, in that I think a lot of us are what he calls "hobbyist" gamers. I do not want to get into another big debate with Mr. Muttonchops over the definition of hardcore, but I agree with Valk that "hardcore" has come to mean any mainstream game that is slightly edgy, for better or for worse. Being thus, it amazes me that No More Heroes did not sell better.

To me, hardcore SHOULD mean anything that is too quirky (Katamari), obtuse (Braid), time-intensive (FFT, Oblivion), or just plain different (Patapon, Blast Works, MAYBE even LBP, although that might be the first casual/hardcore crossover game....oh, wait, all the casual gamers play Wii, not PS3 olol). Then again, I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone that grew up with games, and fails to see how the latest FPS flavor of the month is "hardcore."

All this talk of cubes and blocks makes me want to play intelligence cube again.
Find a dog, honk it's nose. If you are bothered by this sentence. I guess you're just not cool enough for the noses.

It's because only a slice of the market plays it. And I'm just using the terminology that we use in the industry when developing games. If you're not developing for grandma, or for kids, you're developing for the hardcore audience.
