This is pretty cool news. I've been playing the hell out of Mega Man X2 and X3 lately, beating them in all sorts of fashions, like no armor powerups(special weapon colors in Mega Man X2 are too good to be covered up by those awful non-colored armor powerups. I mean, Sonic Slicer? Love that color combo! It gets to the point where you actually have to look at the icon next to his life bar to be able to tell what special weapon you have equipped).
Seeing as how Capcom has a long history of publishing Mega Man games for the most popular console of the time (NES over anything else, SNES over Genesis, Playstation over N64 or Saturn, etc.), I kinda doubt it. BUT MAYBE YOUR PLEA HAS SWAYED THEM, RICK
any idea of, uh, what platform it'll be coming out for?
Knowing Capcom's latest business plans, probably all three consoles. The anniversary and X collection saw a cube/ps2/xbox release so why not the latest MM game?
I wonder, though. Since Mega Man Battle Network borrowed and redesigned bosses from the classic series, might Mega Man 9 feature redesigned Battle Network bosses? I think it's highly unlikely, but it's a possibility.
I should note that for every game in the classic series, barring the first one, there was a create-a-robot contest in which kids (and overgrown adolescents) sent their ideas for bosses to Capcom. Artistic talent is completely irrelevant, though, as the idea is what counts (you'll find that some of the winning drawings for the Mega Man 8 bosses that appear in the ending credits are crudely drawn). The only bosses Mr. Inafune designed himself are the six bosses from Mega Man, Tengu Man and Astro Man from Mega Man 8, and Oil Man and Time Man from Powered Up.
Unless they're breaking away from tradition, I think we can expect another create-a-robot contest. Maybe they'll even let western players participate.
