And reading the comics. And drawing Sonic comics. And watching the cartoons.
Oh my GOD, how did you know me in elementary school?! Did you use a StarGate? Are you Pod People?
My entire childhood was pretty much devoted to Mario, then Sonic, then Earthworm Jim, and then back to Mario following the release of Mario RPG, which also got me into RPGs as a genre (although it took me a while to figure out why this game was so different... and why I couldn't use as many fireballs as I wanted!) These hero-worshiping phases involved every game, every television show, as many toys, figures, and t shirts as I could find, and a sonic light switch. Yeah, that's right. A SONIC LIGHT SWITCH. THAT'S HOW BAD IT GOT.
My first RPG was Final Fantasy Legend III on GB. Got to the final boss (I think he was) and never beat him. But it was a blast because my cousin and I would play together and put our and other family members names for the characters. "Oh! Your sister just got hit by lightning again. I'm not wasting a potion on her."
The last boss in Monster World is a SON OF A *****.
A CONVEYOR BELT? You've gotta be KIDDING ME.
Oh jesus, I had to fight that guy at least 20 times before I was able to finally beat him. Even with all the Heart Containers, a good amount of magic, potions, and the best equipment he's still a *****.
Am I the only one who's psyched about Big the Cat? I've been saying for years that he needs to brought back. The something wonderfully perverse about a slow plodding character in a game about speed. I love it.
