Re: Where's the romance?
Thanks to a well-timed break, I was able to plunk 40+ hours into Oblivion over the past two weeks. I think I got fairly into it.
I will admit that I still have no idea how I found the time to complete Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, and Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. Even Bioware now admits BG2 was insane and you'll never seen a single-player RPG that long ever again.
It doesn't count hours, but between SoA and ToB it wouldn't shock me to know that I plunked 250 hours into it or so. Plus another 40-60 for BG.

Re: Where's the romance?
I completly agree. This game was a very refreshing experiance. The character development was really good I thought.Originally posted by Toaster 218 View PostAssassin's Creed crashed on me 4 times before I decided to take it back to Blockbuster and exchange it for another game. I got Uncharted, and now I'm about to buy it.
I love this game.
Indiana Jones + Tomb Raider + Prince of Persia + Gears of War = Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
The writing is refreshing, the cutscenes are well done, and everything about this game just seems to have been made with love. I know that sounds gay but I don't know how else to describe it. This game makes owning a PS3 all the more worthwhile.

Re: Where's the romance?
Wild Arms 5 marked the first WA game in the series that I did not see the ending for, because I just couldn't do it anymore. I swear I put it in at least 4 times and stopped after only playing it for about 10-15 minutes.
The series needs to either die or get a *serious* series reboot. They had the right idea with incorporating a new battle system, but it just wasn't enough. There are so many problems with the game and the series as a whole that I don't even know where to begin. Or why I'd even bother.
There are a few nuances that I've grown to appreciate. For example, the A.I. for your teamate when playing solo isn't that of a 8 year old.Originally posted by John Mora View PostI couldn't stand how much it was JUST LIKE Gears of War in gameplay. I mean, I own Gears of War already.
Running out of ammo. I find myself having to lose my cover in favor of finding dropped ammo and guns more often than any other game that I've played. I like that.

Re: Where's the romance?
I beat Wild Arms 5. I meant to write about it in length.
Wild Arms 4 earned my trust. It was cheaply made and cliche as hell, but at least it was a tight little story with some neat set pieces. The combat system was clever, and they got rid of that stupid world map.
Wild Arms 5 had some swell new designs, and the music is consistently pretty great. It's like everything was going okay for Media.Vision for a change, and then they had to go and waste their talent by making a Japanese RPG. Whatever story that novelist wrote was lost in translation. They brought back the damn world map. The combat system was a little better, but the most interesting gameplay gimmicks - extensive badge making, the black market - came in way too late.
I spent nearly 80 hours on that game. I got everyone to level 100.
'Cause I'm an IDIOT.
Talk about no romance. The characterization and the plot twists were all weak as hell. They finally got decent voice actors, and they ****ed it up but giving them stupid **** to say, or nothing to say at all.
I will probably be stupid enough to get Wild Arms 6. I own all of the others, after all.Last edited by Kefka Jr.; 01-08-2008, 01:11 AM.

Re: Where's the romance?
The only real reason why I even liked the original Wild Arms is because I didn't know any better, and it was reminicent of Lufia. It was also before the giant outburst of Final Fantasy.

At least Dean finally resolved himself and got over that wall.

Re: Where's the romance?
I'd dare to say that it actually had a decent storyline, it was just poorly told and the translation/localization made it... wait. We don't need this to turn into ANOTHER Wild Arms topic.
I played NiGHTS : Journey of Dreams today. I gotta say, what a fruity little game. I have to say that if someone came over and looked at my videogame collection, granted if I were to purchase it, I'd be embarrased of it's presence. I hold a great amount of distain for the artstyle. To be honest, it doesn't even seem like the game has that much style to begin with. The only hint of which seems like it was it all "borrowed" from the original title but somewhere along the way the wind got taken out of it's sails. The Owl is ugly and poorly designed. The kids looks like Tetsuya Nomura rejects, and then there's these teletubby looking creatures with Halos on their heads. Barf.
Not to mention that THE GRAPHICS SUCK. Let's be honest with ourselves and acknowlede that the Wii is capable producing much better looking games. The original Kingdom Hearts looked better than this and that was a PS2 game made years ago. It's kind of a fun little romp, but it just seems like the game was rushed. And I never played the original.

Re: Where's the romance?
What do you mean by "complex"? I find it apropos that Odin Sphere was mentioned, because it's THE game that everyone else seems to like that I feel is just plain awful. I've given it two chances, and about six hours of play... I feel like it's a complete button masher with mediocre character design, a terrible story, poor level design, bad voice acting, no charm, and a bunch of extraneous systems. Am I missing something?Originally posted by Toaster 218 View PostI was looking forward to The Orange Box but I hear that the PS3 version is botched so I'm going to avoid it, unfortunately. I don't want to suffer through another "Odin Sphere" complex.

Re: Where's the romance?
What I should have said was:
"I don't want to play a game that freezes and slows down all the time like Odin Sphere did."
Because other than that, Orange Box PS3 verison and Odin Sphere have nothing in common. Odin Sphere can rot in a coffin somewhere in Guatamala. I hate it. The only thing it had going for it was it proved that 2D gaming is ceraintly not "dead", and that consumers still are willing to buy those kind of games.
And I enjoy the hell out of Half-Life. Granted my only outing was with Half-Life 2 on X-Box and while I didn't beat it I did get really close. It was a blast. Not at all a FPS, but more in the vein of Metriod Prime. It was a first person adventure, with guns.Last edited by Toaster; 01-09-2008, 03:03 AM.
