RTS for the 360...coming in droves early 2008

I followed a link in my rarely-perused Yahoo email account to the Gamestop site, and after poking around a bit, found a plethora of RTS games being released (at least according to the site) within the first four months of 2008.

    World in Conflict
    EndWar
    Supreme Commander
    Universe at War: Earth Assault
    Warhammer: Battle March

And on top of that, there's Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

I guess the beginning of the year is gonna force someone like me, someone who loves RTS games, but lacks my own computer, to make some tough decisions on which game(s) to buy. Just from the descriptions given in the links, it seems EndWar is the way to go...

    # Strategy for the next generation
Led by creative director Michael de Plater (Rome Total War), EndWar will redefine strategy gaming. Designed exclusively for next-gen consoles EndWar will create a theatre of war, immersing you in the drama of World War III in a way you never thought possible.
    # Fight For Your Nation
Pick a side US, Europe, Russia - the fate of the world is in your hands. If you don’t step in to save your homeland, who will?
    # Command Your Army
Grow your army into the most powerful force on the planet. Your army is completely customizable, and experience breeds strength - your units grow more powerful with every campaign you fight.
    # Light Up The City of Lights
Tom Clancy’s World War III won’t be won by capturing remote deserts or grasslands but by striking countries in the heart. Paris, Moscow, Washington D.C. will all erupt in flames as you battle your way through the fully destructive playground.
    # A Whole New Kind of Massive
EndWar will be an online multiplayer experience unlike anything you’ve ever encountered. 16 player matchups? Try hundreds. 30 minute battles? Try persistent matchups lasting for months at a time. This isn’t a skirmish, it’s World War III.
    # Talk Your Way to Victory
Put the controller aside and start shouting commands. EndWar can be played almost entirely via voice command.
Sounds good to me! After all these games, there may be no real reason for me to even bother with Halo Wars.

    Civilization = RTS?

That's why I said, "and on top of that..." and separated it from the rest of the list. Because I obviously KNOW it's not an RTS game, but it IS a strategy game, so I thought it warranted inclusion in this list.

        Sooo

Are Keyboards and mice going to be used?

        If not, I'll pass.

That's a good question....are keyboards and mice compatible with the 360? I thought I saw something at Gamestop the other day that was a keyboard/mouse peripheral for the 360, but I didn't look too closely at it.

As for me, I've never really played an RTS on a PC (as sad as that is), so I'm used to using a console controller, anyway.

for a mic, you could likely just use a headset, or one of those games comes with its own USB mic like Rock Band. I'm not sure what you're getting at. If it's just chatting with the person you're playing against, a headset is all you need.

And any USB keyboard works fine for typing, not sure if they would set the controls FOR a keyboard since a controller is the only real option. It'd be annoying to have to buy something else just to be able to play a game.

*edit* Oh god! mice! my bad!

Get any of them... No matter what you pick in the end Tiberium is going to be better.

              ZINGA!

Yeah, but I don't think Tiberium is going to be on the 360...and even if it is, I've always kinda never really had an interest in the C & C series anyway.

Ya it is. 360 PS3 and PC.

I do not really have a shining interest for C&C either but Tiberium is different. They have taken an awesome approach on the old gameplay. It looks promising.

And EndWar's promise of hundreds of players/persistent battles does not look promising? I'm just hoping that because they use the word "persistent" that this is not going to be subscription-based.

                      Starcraft 2 > C&C

                      Yeah I went there.

Starcraft 1> C & C, in any of its incarnations.

I continued to go there. I dunno...I've never played the PC versions of either, and only played the N64 versions of both, but SC just seemed a bit more fun and dynamic and strategic by having three races (or factions or whatever) over the only two in C & C...but maybe this is just inherent in the N64 versions I played, and not the PC versions.

PC is always better for RTS games. But in actuality the only RTS I could ever play for more than 5 minutes was Warcraft 2.

Blizzard RTS >>> Any other RTS

Yeah, I went there, because it's true.
