Re: "The Wii User Isn't a Harcore User"

What does "hardcore gamer" mean exactly?

'cause Wii is the only system I have of the three and I consider myself kinda a hardcore gamer. I mean it has shooters, puzzle games, party games, fighting games, adventure games, sports games, etc. Either coming up or already out.

Only thing it lacks are RPG games, aside from the VC that is, unless you count Paper Mario.

thats what im wondering. what is the context of this hardcore gamer label? is he referring to the types of games on the system or the types of people attitude towards gaming in general? ive seen the title tossed around for both meaning so perhaps this is the pinch point.

if its the first then i agree that nintendo itself doesnt fully that type of gaming market (seen by its religious guarding of the cartrage and what is put on it). nintendo itself is more family oriented but their is still a bunch of hardcore titles for the wii on there.

i consider myself a hard gamer also for the dedication and time i put towards consoles and games.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

See guys we're talking in generalities not in specifics .

So like I said, yeah Wii has some hardcore games, but its focus is not gamers, but more getting people into gaming with more mainstream, simpler games.

It's a first party game, it could've been Samus crapping on a toilet and it would've sold.

I think Yamaoka's comments came more from the fear of it not selling well as 3rd party titles don't on the wii.

Silent Hill would sell much more on the 360 than the Wii, it's as simple as that. If you look at the NPD numbers for "hardcore" Wii games, they're not very good (Nintendo games don't count because people by a Nintendo system for Nintendo games).

I don't see why first party games don't count. Just because Nintendo has a huge fanbase. Take last month and wipe out Halo 3, look at the numbers. Yeah, doesn't make sence does it? That's because Halo 3 came out.

Just because Nintendo games sell well, and are great games to boot, they should still count.

Monster Hunter is one of the hardest series I've ever played
and the fans like it that way. They better not Nintendo-fy it.
What the hell does this statement even mean? as of last year, Nintendo had published more T rated games than Sony.

I don't recall any of capcom's games that were on the Gamecube being cakewalks either. even Megaman Network Transmission was hard as hell.

I think he's talking about difficulty, in regards to Nintendo's simplistic approach to gamemaking.

I don't get that. Nintendo doesnt have a simplistic approach. tell me what's simplistic about any of the zelda or metroid games.

Nintendo is still making games for the "hardcore" gamers. they're just also making games for the mainstream and new gamers too. are they making more of these than "hardcore" games? they sure are, because stuff like brain age and nintendogs don't take as long to make.

Nintendo really isnt neglecting anyone. are people really going to say "hell no, I'm not playing super mario galaxy because he doesnt have a gun"?

Zelda Phantom Hourglass is a breeze, Zelda TP was the easiest one yet, as was Metroid Prime 3. There games are getting way easier so everyone can beat them. I can't deny a desire for Nintendo to ramp up the difficulty on there games at least.

they may be somewhat easier, but they're still a lot of fun to play, and that's what matters most to me.

With phantom hourglass, I don't remember ever dying. it was short and painfully easy. but nintendo is just trying to introduce new people to zelda, which I can't fault them for. it was a fun game. I just wish it was longer. I really wish it were longer.

twilight princess was an awesome game. a lot of fun, especially with the double hookshot. as for how easy it was, I beat Ocarina of Time with less hassle. and everyone LOVES that POS.

I have yet to play metroid prime 3 beyond the store demo, so I can't really talk much about it. I loved what I played, and I'm trading some stuff in to get it tomorrow.

Zelda is probably one of the greatest examples of simplistic gameplay (in this age of gaming). I didn't even use the term negatively, and I was really just explaining the point that I thought Gloomy was trying to make.

You're acting like it's a big bad thing.

It has nothing to do with the setting of the game. I'm worried
Capcom will make the game more simplistic/casual gamer friendly.
When has capcom EVER done this? again, look at their gamecube games. I'd rather have wii remote thrusting and waving than barely-responsive/over-sensitive sixaxis motion controls.
