Seriously, you can pay like 15 for a splitter. Then all you do is hit a button. One. single. button.

Its not that Im lazy, it just makes no sense to waste space and have cables dangling around(esp. having 2 kids) when I can easily spend the extra $200 and have more convenience.

and Im not lazy if Im willing to work the extra 10 hours of overtime just to get the better model

Yeah, but you still have 2 systems taking up valuable space on your E.C.

Anyway, it's cheaper, has a smaller HDD, and IT DOESN'T PLAY PS2 GAMES? The excuse? "There's a more extensive lineup of games of the PlayStation 3."
I think this is dumb. Why phase out the 60GB model?
The 60GB has to be the best PS3 model you can own at the moment. It'd be better if they lowered the price more on that and continued making them. 60GB is a decent amount of memory.

I understand where JPS is coming from. However, I personally have planned to dig up old ps2/ps1 games for a whie and I never do, so I really couldn't give a spit for the ps2 BC if I really am going to play an old game I'll get out the old PS2.

Or maybe take the money I save and get a nice slimline.

Cheaper is good, but no BC? Sony just doesn't want me to buy a PS3, do they?

Seriously, none of you own a PS2?

You guys really play PS2 games that often?

If you really want backwards compatability, then go with the more expensive model. I ain't gonna hate on Sony for offering a much more affordable PS3. Since, I'm pretty sure the actual majority of console owners aren't hooked up online and not downloading tons of demos, this is right up a lot of peoples alleys -- including mine.

Same here. The only reason we're not going to get a PS3 is the cost. This solves that.

By the way, can the PS3 play PSX games?

The 60GBs can. Some of them better than others though.

Well this is an RPGM community, I am sure that the fact that you can put RPGM saves directly onto the PS3 and play the games using that would be a factor somhow.

I'm almost certain that once I get rid of my 360 I will be buying a 60GB model.

It's not like my 360 system is dead yet, I just don't want to have to deal with it being unreliable.

Because some of them are classics that deserves another playthrough

Same reason I still own Atari, NES, SNES and N64

also, please consider the failure rate of PS2s. many people have PS2s now, but how much longer will they have them? how many PS2s have they been through so far? do they want to try and replace a broken PS2 when they're no longer being manufactured?

Ive only bought one, and that was in 2002, and Ive had a tendency to leave it running days on end

Re: Talk about LOWER END.(Sony announces new, cheaper PS3)

I don't get it. People complained about the price at launch, I know because I was one of them and wanted the PS3 price to go down.

                                Sony drops the price.

(I jumped on board because I figure, a bluray player, the cell processor, media managment, the option to install other OS systems, true backwards compatability, the function to upscale dvds, dedicated servers, and mouse + keyboard support is worth the money, plus no internet fee.)

People still complain about the price, which I can understand since 500$ is alot.

Sony drops the price again, only now they cut some fat off to save you some money (options that you dont need to play PS3 titles), yet you still complain about price and the removal of these options? You don't make any sense.
