Active players can be defensive too. But yeah, the GG games penalize you for turtling, which while a legitimate tactic, really slows the game down and is a worse way to play in GG, due to the other defensive options available.

I happened to watch Game Head last night and it looks like the upcoming Marvel fighting game will be the kind of fighter I've been waiting a long time for somebody to make. The stages are fully destructible 2-city block arenas. You can throw each other into buildings and toss cars and things around. Unfortunately EA and Marvel fighting game turned out to be a horrible combination with Rise of the Imperfects so I can't say I expect this game to turn out good but I'm hoping it does.

It's just that what's the difference between that and a regular beat 'em up?

          I don't know. I haven't really played any beat-em-ups since Fighting Force.

Fighting Force was fun. It was like Streets of Rage in 3D.

                    Do what Mora?

Stop me from telling the world how I mildly enjoyed Fighting Force?

I'm surprised no one mentioned Ehrgeiz.

Single player Fighting Force is pretty lame. Same problem as most beat-em-ups: repetitive and shallow. Bad guy approaches, punch kick weapon, repeat until the room is clear, then on to the next room to do the same thing until the games is over. It was fun two player though. Co-op makes just about any game more fun but that has more to do with interacting with the other player than the game itself usually.

Oh, that's right, Mora didn't have any friends to play with.

                            No.

But what Chuck said should be remembered: co-op is fun usually for the company of the person rather than the game.
