    Re: Pokemon Battle Revolution

It seems that they were half-right about one facility. In Round 2, the Gateway Colosseum does turn into a Trade Battle.

My favorite colosseum is probably Sunset's Select Battle.

Grah, I hate that one. I got to the leader and I chose the wrong pokemon. Too much based on luck.

I think it's more knowledge and strategy-based, considering the fact that the opponent chooses from the same pool of 12 Pokemon as yourself, and they have the same movesets. But luck does play a small role, as always.

Luck plays a fairly bigger role than you realize. In these battles, it doesn't always matter whether you're using the best strategy.

            I dunno.

I think saying its based on luck is a way to justify the losing experience.

            Burn!

But seriously. In that one, you just need to look at the moves and stuff and decide carefully. I plowed through it.

I need to beat the freakin last Colloseum but I get owned everytime I get to the end.

              Re: Pokemon Battle Revolution

I'm pretty sure the facility was designed with a far bigger strategy emphasis than luck, since there are zero unknowns, barring exactly which Pokemon the opponent chose, considering the fact that you can see what everyone is using whilst making your selections and counter accordingly.

Also, it looks like there could be a lot more variety for the rental teams than I previously thought. Normally, you get to borrow a rental team, and when you win the Gateway Colosseum challenge, you get to keep it for yourself. In the case of the Round 2 Gateway Colosseum, if I'm not mistaken, since you can swap one of your your partners with any one of the opponent's Pokemon after each round, the team you end up with in the end may actually be the pass you get to keep. And since the challenge gets progressively tougher as you go on, you could end up with a very powerful setup as you battle there over and over, or even several setups. I really need to test this out.

I don't see how you can do anything stratagy-wise as you have no idea what the opponent has. I can pick a great team and then I see the opponent has the perfect counter to it.

I still don't know why Flamethrower 1 hit KOs any water type though. That just seems odd.

                  Re: Pokemon Battle Revolution

Your opponent does exactly what you do, by checking all the Pokemon, their attacks, Abilities, stats and held items, and selects a team with the most possible coverage against the pool. In all the Sunset battles I've been in, every set of twelve had enough Pokemon to handle everyone one way or another. If you're getting heavily trounced and completely countered frequently, it's usually due to poor or inapt selections. However, even if you do have an excellent team, how you use them is equally important.

So yes, you should pick the ones with the best balance of statistics, moves and additional benefits (Abilities, held items, etc.) that can do the most to the set, and watch for the crap ones that the opponent will likely avoid using. They will try to trick you with things like particularly attractive, evolved Pokemon with dud movesets that might look powerful (e.g: Victreebel with Acid (special move), Swords Dance (physical attack boosting move) and no physical moves to speak of) and Pokemon with tricky, yet extremely situational moves, whilst covering up real powerful Pokemon with excellent movesets and/or abilities with the guises of under-evolved forms and apparently weak higher-stage Pokemon. In 2v2, there will also be Pokemon which may appear useless on their own, but are big team players.

Flamethrower knocking out all Water types instantly sounds a bit like sour grapes to me. Which cases were these?

Anyway, if you'd like, I can prove to you that it's all about strategy. If you want help selecting partners, let me know right away.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but if you choose the wrong pokemon (or rather they choose the right one) it can hurt the whole team.

I just am flustered that it takes so long to get to the leader.

Also with the flamethrower, I have a water/stone/etc. type and if it doesn't do 1 hit kos it does do tons of damage. I don't know why though.

                      Re: Pokemon Battle Revolution

The whole point of the facility is to avoid using the wrong Pokemon. If your opponent is keen, they will likely have at least half of the great ones. The good Pokemon are capable of countering each other, which is where the battle strategy element comes in.

In the case of the Flamethrower, since the Pokemon aren't at their highest stages, it will definitely do plenty of damage due to its being such a powerful attack, especially if its partner uses Helping Hand to give it a 50% power boost. Vulpix is usually the Pokemon that has this move the first time 'round, so you'll want to take it out as soon as possible with a Rock, Water or Ground attack, or even better, just any heavy physical hit from a fast Pokemon, since its defense is low (not its Sp.Def). Protect is usually a good help, too. Knowing the statistical strengths and weaknesses of the Pokemon is another big help.

I've got a Skorupi egg laying dormant in my box. I can give it to you later today.

EDIT: Well! it looks like I can get multiples of the special Pikachu after all. It's only one per game, but since I haven't started my US Pearl yet, I can start a new game over and over to stockpile them and give them to people.

I downloaded my first one today. I am a happy.

Wow, these animations are terrible. I wouldn't hire someone if they came in with these animations on their reel...

...and the funny thing is, I worked on a game like this (Duel Masters).

I like it when Banette dies.

That's cool, they just insult me as an animator. Heaven forbid Nintendo actually put forth the effort into this one.
