I have the SF1 for GBA, but I really want the original back. The graphics were a lot cooler back then. Plus, on the GBA they took out the Zhang He awesome looking promoted Zylo

Yeah, i liked the promoted Zylo in the original Shining Force better than the GBA one. I still liked the GBA version though.

Re: Shining Tears. Am I the only one?

I haven't purchased a single Shining game since the 2nd one was released on the Saturn, hence I'm not too savvy regarding the series. However, I'm willing to give this one a shot. I beat Musashi Samurai Legend recently (which was a blast) and replayed MegaMan and Bass, so I could use something else to keep this good-game streak going.

His little wave of blue claw thingies were just so cool...

But uh, I thought SFII came out for the Genesis??

Hell, I wouldn't know. At least I know it had "Shining" in it. The one before Shining The Holy Ark.

Re: Shining Tears. Am I the only one?

Should I go through the Shining games?

                Genesis/Master System:
                1. Shining in the Darkness was a traditional RPG with a dungeon-crawling first person view. I believe it was the first in the series, and on the Master System.
                2. Shining Force I on the Master System, first Strategy RPG in the series.
                3. Shining Force II on the Genesis, and I think the best.

                Game Gear:
                1. Shining Force Gaiden I: it was a Japanese only game, and takes place shortly after Shining Force 1, I believe.
                2. Shining Force Gaiden II: Sword of Hajya - the only U.S. Game Gear release, it follows an army that is trying to find out what happened to the Shining Force of Gaiden 1.
                3. Shining Force Gaiden III: Final Conflict - takes place sometime after Shining Force II for Genesis, and also has a couple of recurring characters from the Genesis series.

                Sega CD:
                1. Shining Force CD: This one is the first two Game Gear Gaidens, translated fully, and added graphics and sound, with two extra games that I know absolutely nothing about. I picked up a Sega CD a few weeks ago, and will buy this eventually.

                Sega Saturn:
I don't know the when's for the games releases, for the most part.
                1. Shining Wisdom - a really terrible first for the series. It was an action RPG that had a terrible interface and the battle system sucked.
                2. Shining the Holy Ark - I haven't played this one yet, but apparently, some characters from both Shining Force III, and Shining Force II overlap in this one, meaning that the events in all three of these games occur around the same time period. It was supposedly a much better attempt at an action RPG in the Shining realm.
                3. Shining Force III - scenarios 1, 2, and 3: Much fun, but only scenario 1 got released in the States. Scenarios 2 and 3 got canned for translation because the Saturn was discontinued over here shortly after Scenario 1's release.

                Game Boy Advance:
Shining Soul I - never played it, but it was apparently mostly just your average action RPG.
Shining Soul II - This one was a lot better than the last action RPG I played in the series, but it was basically just average.
Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon - remake of the 1st one. Done quite well, but doesn't beat the 1st one for fun.

                PS2:
                1. Shining Tears: Action RPG with dual-player ability. This is the first Shining game with true multiplayer ability, though I was pretty sure that Shining Soul, at least one of them, had multiplayer ability. This one is fun, as I've stated.
                2. Shining Force Neo: This is supposed to be a really strange strategy action hybrid, although it was originally going to be a strat RPG in the full. Comes out later this year.
                3. Shining Force (To be announce 2006): This one is in the works, but they're promising that it will be a true Force game, with the strategy elements that made the series so popular in the first place.

They've re-released the original Shining Force on at least two or three compilation disks, but who cares about those.

I am thinking of getting that game but i've have to wait till my birthday thought next month.
There is one thing that pretty much disturbes me in an SRPG....

Ah, no wonder I never bothered with the series much after I played that one; I had a bad first impression.

I'll give the series another chance.

I love Shining Force a lot more than the other Shinings.

Shining Soul II reminded me of Legend of Mana for some reason

So can anyone say if it's anything like Shining Soul?

Yeah, I got the Master System and the Mega Drive mixed up earlier. I hadn't slept and stuff. Mega Drive is what my copies of Shining Force and Shining in the Darkness say on the boxes, so like... forgive me.

I've looked all around, but I can't find any talk of this dual-action stuff. You said the L buttons and L stick move the main character, and the R buttons and R stick move the secondary? But it's hard to do without flexibility? What, are the attacks on Square, Triangle, Circle and X or something? Please elaborate, cause I could find nothing.

This interests me. I like weird things that are challenging in new ways. I'd get this game simply for the dual-action gameplay if the set-up isn't too stupid.
                                Keep the change.
