Re: I got a FIVE CENT raise!!!

I think they put too much faith in people when they increase the minimum wage. They believe that by giving people more money, they'll spend more, stimulate the economy, creating more jobs, and so forth in a domino effect to boost the overall economic climate. In effect, it very rarely happens that way. Oh well. I live in MI, and I was only making $7/hour after 3 raises at my past job, and from what I understand, no one making north of the new minimum wage got an increase. And Terr, Michigan is kinda doing that, offering increases to the minimum wage annually for the next two years... who only knows what's gonna happen after that, though.

The increases are too far spread apart. Prices will rise much faster, killing any gains in tht time.

It would need to be pegged to inflation and updated every 2-3 months to have an appreciable affect. With a finite system, someone's gain is another's loss. The only way for people to actually have increased wages is to take it from profit margins, and our businesses do not like the idea. If you increase prices instead of take it from profit, then the wage increase is essentially not there due to devaluation of the currency.

ham and cheese on wheat with bacon, lettuce, tomato, black olives, and mayo,

        or

steak and pepperjack cheese with onions, bell peppers, a little lettuce, and chipotle sauce.

not toasted. i generally don't like restaurants toasting things, because i want slightly crunchy outside, or just the crust if possible, and warm and chewy inside. which doesn't occur 9 times out of 10... usually you get "hard throughout", cuz you apparently want your sandwich on a crouton.

i went to a subway in new york where the third person(!) behind the counter to handle my sandwich, in charge of the oniony area of toppings, didn't understand what i meant by "bell pepper". she touched 4 different things and had me repeat it 3 times before hitting the right one... and then while i was eating, the guy about 5 people behind me in line had the exact same problem with her. good times.

i make 10 an hour... and there's ALWAYS a similar or easier job out there that will pay you $1-$2 over minimum wage within 6 months of starting there, so don't settle :P unless you're getting other benefits.

Most people don't understand what a "bell pepper" is. At Subway, the bell peppers are the green peppers, and the name is derived from the shape, not the color. A lot of people call the banana peppers "bell peppers" because they are yellow, like a bell, which isn't correct. Even though bell peppers can be yellow, the yellowish-color of bell peppers is actually more orangish compared to the yellowish-color of banana peppers.

Whenever someone comes into Subway and says they want "bell peppers", I reach for green peppers, even if I know they want banana peppers. When they act disgusted and say they meant the yellow peppers, I just kindly apologize and put the banana peppers on their sub. At least I know I was right.

Do you tell them of their mistake? Cause when I'm at work and people go "stupid computer," I tell them that the computer isn't stupid the operator is. But in a nice way so they don't get mad.

Nah, because the customer is always right and we have to keep up that facade.

my friend never got a raise. when it was time for a raise, the minimum wage went up so he made exactly that and they went obligated to give him a true minimum wage. the new guys got the bonus without working their long.

i have refused since birth to never work for minimum wage. my work is worth more then these sap sucking cumapnies pay. (pun intended)

If you are refusing to never do something, that means that you are willing to do it...it's kind of like typing a sentence with a double negative; the refused and the never cancel each other out. Oh, and I never refer to green peppers as bell peppers...I just call 'em green peppers.
