I received a solicit for Civil War from my local comic shop, but the whole premise leaves me a little less than enchanted. Mutant/superhero registration? The Marvel House and Senate must meet every 20 years or something, because they've been trying to do something like this in X-Men for as long as I can remember.

well the politics of it this time are supposed to parallel modern american politics. that alone makes me roll my eyes in annoyance. but the comic bookery aspects of it don't seem as bothersom. the "secret council", while unusual, seems to not be too far out of character for the people in it. as long as they don't rely on "shocking deaths!" as much as others, i'll be happy.


but yeah, it could bloat. it's already pretty big, considering house of m and avengers disassembled is supposed to be the "pre-history" of it, among others.

I'm so ****** off! I have every single issue of Batgirl up to its cancellation, and Robin #150 spit over all of that by turning her into yet another lame, Chinesy villain, undoubtedly all in the name of making Robin look good when he ultimately does the impossible and beats her in hand to hand combat. Chock another one up to the refrigerators. Man, she might as well have stayed dead. At least that had some dignity to it.

yes, i had heard about her turn. seems a shame since she was a very awesome character to start with. i imagine they got rid of her to make room for a "new" batgirl. but still, what a drag. all that character development out the window.

It's sad that now DC has it's own version of "A wizard did it!" Any time a character acts OOC they can just say "THEY WERE AFFECTED BY ONE OF SUPERBOY PRIME'S PUNCHES."

i think i'd be happier with comics today if they didn't keep retconning things. these days the target is usually a classic storyline, and it usually involves turning a previously thought good person into an actually evil person. it's been done like fifty times in the last 5 years by both the bigs. they need to calm the **** down with it! i don't need to read about gwen stacy dying and think about how the green goblin's only killing her cause she won't let him see their babies. i don't need to think that the jla has been secretly wiping the minds of heros and villians alike for years. or that professor x screwed with all the minds of the second x-team. that's just shock for shock value! YES, it's shocking when you urinate on someones grave. but that dosn't mean it's a good idea.
