Student arrested for writing fictional zombie story

The real meaning of Homeland Security.

Student Arrested For Terroristic Threatening Says Incident A Misunderstanding

A George Rogers Clark High School junior arrested Tuesday for making terrorist threats told LEX 18 News Thursday that the "writings" that got him arrested are being taken out of context.

Winchester police say William Poole, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday morning. Investigators say they discovered materials at Poole's home that outline possible acts of violence aimed at students, teachers, and police.

Poole told LEX 18 that the whole incident is a big misunderstanding. He claims that what his grandparents found in his journal and turned into police was a short story he wrote for English class.

"My story is based on fiction," said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. "It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."

Even so, police say the nature of the story makes it a felony. "Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a school or function it's a felony in the state of Kentucky," said Winchester Police detective Steven Caudill.

Poole disputes that he was threatening anyone.

"It didn't mention nobody who lives in Clark County, didn't mention (George Rogers Clark High School), didn't mention no principal or cops, nothing,"
said Poole. "Half the people at high school know me. They know I'm not that stupid, that crazy."

On Thursday, a judge raised Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars after prosecutors requested it, citing the seriousness of the charge.

Poole is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

I should write a story about how Im planning on sending Godzilla to destroy the white house, and then sending mechanical monkeys to bomb the state capitals with help from aliens. Then send it to some american police by "accident".

I wonder what kind of response Id get.

My second grade teacher called my parents because I wrote a story about a blob eating George H.W. Bush. I'm probably on some FBI list somewhere.

they can catch someone writing a story but why can't they catch Osama bin laden? I mean it'e not hard to miss a six foot seven crack head, with a towel on his head

The logic of that statement is overwhelming.

Reminds me of my cameo in the Bush game, where Dave and I are in jail for making the Bush game.

That was a joke. This, unfortunately, isn't. I feel sorry for the guy. Looks like our government is still out hunting snipe when it comes to terrorism/terrorists. I guess they have to look like they are doing something with all that tax money.

alright, fine. i'm gonna say it. as counterpoint to all this "something bad happened.....bush did it!" ****.

this sort of crap was going on waaaay before bush was in office. remember? anybody? school shootings? paranoia? remember? ....do ya? it was stupid then and it's stupid now, but the grandparents of this kid freaked out when they read his stuff, and unless the homeland security act/george bush sat them down in a room and brainwashed them to irrationally spy on little timmy, it's not their fault. and you havn't read this kids story, so you don't know WHAT it says. it's possible, just possible, the kid is lying his ass off because he dosn't want to get in trouble. does that mean he should be punished for writing the story? no. but again this all ties into the paranoia thing that perhaps only i remember from years i think were called the clinton presidency.

you may now return to your cross.

Re: Student arrested for writing fictional zombie story

I never even said it had anything to do with the Homeland Security Department or Act or even Bush. The term Homeland Security does have other meanings, you know, and it's not something some beuracracy alone is involved in, but mjany paranoid Americans are as well, like this kid's grandparents.

And yes, stuff like this has happened, but this hysteria *is* getting exponentially worse under Bush. Examples abound, such as people getting pulled over and taken to jail for having anti-Bush stickers on their car(only to be held there and later released and the case thrown out of court), people getting thrown in jail for making statements that they'd like to see *insert name of fascist politician* dead but never actually threatening harm to that person, people having the FBI show up at their door simply for protesting, kintergardeners being expelled from school for bringing butterknifes to spread peanut butter on their sandwiches...

I never said junior did anything. Note that I mentioned the responsible party was "the government."

And if my grandparents had seen some of the stuff I drew when I was 18, I'm sure they would've flipped. It's the police who turned it into a giant mess that will probably screw up this guy's life for a long time.

toe, you said, "The real meaning of Homeland Security." and it's in caps, which means it's a proper name. which confused me. really. i've never heard of this "Homeland Security=wave of paranoia sweeping the nation" theory of yours, but i'm sure its valid.

and with "Homeland Security" meaning...well, anything i guess. i guess that's like the new word for paranoia. "watch out, she's come down with a bad case of...'HOMELAND SECURITY'!!!" anyways, hopefully you can understand how a person not knowing that Homeland Security meant grandparents tattling on their grandkids would think you were actually talking about "Homeland Security"

also, i never said you specifically said bush did it. and you never said i said you said that. and so on and so on.
