Re: Can you guys do me a favor?

I agree that it's part and parcel with the immigration debate. I think the reactionaries are watching things like that and reading about how students in several Texas schools are trying to force the school to fly the Mexican flag above at least the Texas state flag and are pushing back as much as they could.

It's part of why I think the immigration protestors went about it all wrong. By breaking out the Mexican flags they pushed away the very people they needed to appeal to.

Did anyone else notice that it was said by a 10th grade Spanish class? They're not saying it in Spanish to be unpatriotic, they're saying it in Spanish because they're in Spanish class.

If Jesus wanted us to speak Spanish, he'd have written it into the Constitution.

I think it's inapporpriate that our pledge and national anthem are about the flag in the first place. Not the people, or the land, or the ideals, but the actual piece of cloth flag itself. That just seems odd to me. I've always thought "God Bless America" or "America the Beautiful" would make better anthems. Even "I'm Proud to be an American" would be good. Of course we'd still have the issue of God being in it but has there ever been a song about America that didn't mention God? And if we have to pledge to the flag why can't it be that cool one with the snake that says "Don't Tread On Me"?
It's not about the flag itself. It was written during the war of 1812, about a specific battle. The author was a prisioner of war, and he was watching the battle from a ship. He thought that the British would take the fort, but the next day, he was suprised to see the flag still flying.

So really, the flag is a metaphor for the US standing strong against all odds.

Hell, even the English don't speak English.

****ers always calling cigarretts "****" and ****ing freedom fries "chips".

            Speak English you limey morons!

They should make "Mann Gegen Mann" by Rammstein the national anthem.

German rules, Spanish sucks. Speaking the pledge oif allegiance in a language that sucks is a crime against God.

On the other hand, it doesn't matter what language you speak, be it English, German, French, Arabic, or one of those other ****ed up backwards languages, we kicked your ass at some point in time anyway.

Damn, I'm feeling the wave of raw hatred coming back at me already!

            Yep, I'm ignant.

Honestly, I'm not going to vote because I really am not that concerned about the issue. As was said before, what ignants want to think is wht they'll think.

Asking all your online buddies to vote multiple times on a local poll just to skew the results of the poll in favor of your own opinion won't change their minds much. Plus it seems to me like it's a little low.

Just as long as I don't need to speak Spanish to make an order at Mc Donalds.

I'm part mexican and I still don't like shitloads of people coming here without using the proper channels.

I agree, Garr. All this was though is a Spanish class receiting the pledge and people were offended by it. Thats just ridiculous, IMO.

Bush weighs in. Apparently, spanish-speaking people will steal our soul.

WASHINGTON - The national anthem should be sung in English — not Spanish — President Bush declared Friday, amid growing restlessness over the millions of immigrants here illegally.

"One of the things that's very important is, when we debate this issue, that we not lose our national soul," the president exclaimed. "One of the great things about America is that we've been able to take people from all walks of life bound as one nation under God. And that's the challenge ahead of us."

A Spanish language version of the national anthem was released Friday by a British music producer, Adam Kidron, who said he wanted to honor America's immigrants.

When the president was asked at a Rose Garden question-and-answer session whether the anthem should be sung in Spanish, he replied: "I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."

He made his remarks on the matters during a wide-ranging briefing with reporters.

"I think people who want to be citizens of this country ought to learn English," Bush said.

The president's comments came amid a burgeoning national debate — and congressional fight — over legislation pending in Congress, and pushed by Bush, to overhaul U.S. immigration law.

Bush called on lawmakers to move forward on legislation — now stalled — that would revamp immigration laws.

"I want a comprehensive bill," Bush said that includes enforcement as well as giving temporary worker status to some illegal immigrants.

Large numbers of immigrant groups have planned an economic boycott next week to dramatize their call for legislation providing legal status for millions of people in the United States illegally.

"You know, I'm not a supporter of boycotts," Bush said. " I am a supporter of comprehensive immigration ... I think most Americans agree that we've got to enforce our border. I don't think there's any question about that."

His remarks followed release of the Spanish language version of the song, called "Nuestro Himno" or "Our Anthem."

Any way someone could post translations of the pledge? I'd like russian, say that one at school ^_^. Otherwise I don't really say it... I enjoy teachers getting mad about things they can't get mad about. Any language would do, but I'd like russian.
