    OH. CRAP.

My monitor is dying. just wonderful. little lines quickly appear across the screen, like a TV sometimes has when it's got bad reception. they're accompanies by quiet chime sounds coming from the screen itself.

by turning the monitor off and then back on, I'm spared from the effects for a minute, but hen it starts right back up and gets faster, and faster. I have yet to see what happens if I leave it on for a few minutes after it starts happening, and I dont want to find out.

I guess I'll use my PSP to browse the forums, and only use the computer to post the contest reviews today.

I hate when monitors crap out on you. I remember the day I turned on my monitor and discovered that it was incapable of showing the color red and any color that has red in it. That was fun.

The worst part is that I was deeply into a PC game at the time (I forget which one...Icewind Dale, I think) and it was almost like I couldn't play it. Luckily I got a new monitor within a week.

My TV went out, so I repaired it roughly a year ago. Now it is going out again, and odds are, I won't be able to repair it anymore due to what I did to get it working again. RCA TVs suck.

I've got some magazines that put select screens through their paces. I'll tell you about some good ones over AIM if you need to know.

Yeah, but I got mine for free since it was unwanted(it was also new), and my Sanyo before that had burnt out. This apparantly 'new' RCA only lasted 3 years before I had to first repair it...

When this completely burns out, my old granny has some 70s TV available that just keeps on running. Those are nearly indestructible, not like the crap made today that is specifically engineered for a lifespan less than a decade and high replacement rate.

Cell phones do interfere with monitors, though I wouldn't say that is the problem. Mine won't hurt my monitor unless it's pretty close, and even then, it only does it for 10 seconds at the most, and probably doing so when it's updating its clock from Cingular.

Last spring the backlight on my laptop's LCD monitor went out, and a replacement cost about as much as the resell value of the computer itself. That was no good!

So I found an ad in the paper and bought a decent desktop monitor for $25.

My computer screws up almost every day. you only tend to hear about it when its related to RPG Maker.

Well not all the time as the first samsung I got screwed up within about 3 months of buying it, I turned it on one day and everything went blurry. So about 2 months after that, calling customer service a few times, I finally got a new one since it was under warrenty, and luckily for me they didn't have my model so I got a slightly better one (more bandwith = higher resolution and refresh rate on lower resolutions). It's funny that a KDS monitor that's about 2 years old is still going strong, while the samsung one dies so early, though the new one hasn't messed up any. Samsungs tend to make a lot of static noise turning on and off (more than other CRT's I've bought). Of course it's still better than the Envision one I have that smells funny, but works fine.

I've got NEC AccuSync 700. It's 17", and hasn't failed me for the 6 months that I've owned it.

Really? I've had my RCA TV for going on 15 years, and it still works well. It's one of those huge console TVs, and we've only ever had to have it fixed once in those 15 years.

If yours is 15 years old, you must understand it was manufactured back when TVs weren't engineered(at least not as often) for shorter lifespans to increase replacement rate and thus profit.

My RCA was from around 2001. 27 inch screen. Didn't see much use, either, as I hardly ever watch TV(From 2001-2004, roughly 20 minutes a week average, 2005-2006, roughly 90 minutes a week average). It's seen about 500 hours of use from various videogame systems(and DVDs) as well.

Consider that the average American watches more like 3-4 hours a DAY. Even adding in my video game use, I didn't get much out of it.

Once I set my windows 3.12 monitor settings out of the range of its monitor. I locked myself out of it.

                              It didn't matter, though.
