    Plastic cup madness

My mother was telling me she read that plastic water bottles aren't meant to be refilled, and you'll actually get a bit of the plastic back in your water if you refill it because it's only meant to be used once. She said this is the same for plastic disposable dixie cups. Is this true or a bunch of hooey?

I have a big blue coca cola plastic cup that says "not for re-use" on the bottom, which I've been using for around 3 years now.

I'm sure you end up with more plastic in the original water considering it's been sitting in that bottle from the time it was bottled at the plant, through transport, and all the time it was sitting in the store or wherever you get it. I can't say it's not true but it really doesn't make sense to me.

The pop/soda/whathaveyou companies do put that on the bottles, but that's only to cover their ***** legally indicating that the bottles can't be refilled.

It is true that if you don't wash them out they'll begin to build up bacteria, etc.

it is true, thats why many things inside plastic come with an expirey date when the product itself will far outlast the date. you can acualy taste the difference in water and other substances if they go outside of that date, its a little more chemical taste then normal.

plastic decays very slowly, but it does decay.

I'd bet it's a combination of this and this.

But I do hear that's how you catch the gay.

plastic bottles will never be in the same league as rubber nipples.

I wound up reusing a plastic bottle for a while when I still worked at Wendy's. Eventually I did replace it for another bottle, but during both their reuses I didn't really have any problems.

Well I've already swallowed a decent amount of plastic from having the habit of chewing on my pens... And ultimately eating pieces of pen.

                    I figures I'm still alive.
