That is extremely likely. Once your "life" leaves your body, a "self" no longer exists. Your life is transfered to something else bringing forth new life. So either way life goes on.
I had to change accounts. I'm here now - http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/member.php?u=1475
I believe that at the end of time that everyones bodies will resurrect. The dust shall come together and you become what you were with the abilities of your soul.
I believe that the afterlife exists, but I don't exactly how it works, nor do I think anyone really knows. I don't think anyone "dies forever", I think it's more like a big change.
On another topic, I don't believe in religion, nor do I believe in science either. But respect those who do. It's honorable to "look for answers", but I think it's better to do one's own thinking and testing, rather than following science or religion blindly. They're good for ideas but as soon as they say "I'm 100% sure this is the truth" I remind myself it's me who chooses what to believe in, not them! Have you seen all those crazy studies? Statistics have gone crazy. There's proof that chocolate is good for you, and there's proof that it's not. And bazillion "facts" like that. Whatever. Just do what you like and never stop role playing.
Yeah, I beleive in something happening after death, if only because I can't imagine not existing.
Seriously, try it. It's just too hard to contemplate, so I'm holding out for something.
I pretty much agree with what has already been said.
...(that rhymed)
But yeah. I think something will be done with whatever seperates me from me being a living being and not a living being. I guess I believe in "reincarnation," but less in actually turning into another being and more with my "whatever" energy stuff won't be wasted.
Science is just a collection of theories that appears to be true as far as we can tell. Religion is just a collection of dogma that appears to be true as long as you never question it. Beliefs, I think, are engrained in each person. There are certain things that just feel true to you whether anyone else in the world agrees or not. Whenever a person changes their beliefs they realize they never REALLY believed the previous thing deep inside. So in order to figure out what you believe you shouldn't be looking at science, religion, philosophy, or anything else created by other people. You should look inside yourself. That's the only place to find truth.
I see the life cycle as being like a lava lamp. There's this big blob of conciousness/souls/life energy whatever you want to call it. Individual bubbles seperate from it, float around for a while. That's a single living being. Eventually the bubble rejoins the blob. That bubble is gone. That particular bubble can never exist again. But all of it's liquid still exists. It's returned to the whole. There will always be more bubbles but each only exists for a short time and each one is entirely unique and new regardless of the fact that they're all pulled from the same blob.
So when I die I will no longer exist but nothing of me will cease to exist either. Just like my body loses its individual form and becomes loose matter again, my "soul" will lose its singularity and return to its basic elements. Everything in this universe is like that. Entropy will eventually return the all matter and energy to the infinitely small, dense particle that it all started from. I'm neither comforted nor frightened by this belief, it just feels true to me and that's all that matters.
The idea of me becoming nothing when i die is a scary thought.
The idea that I will continue in another life, but having no recollection of the past lives i may have had seems like a waste. All those we cared for, the skills we acquire, ect., will have been for nothing if we have to start from scratch.
I'd like to believe that there's a heaven, but man kind has had so many conflicts and lies with each other over their beliefs, who can you truely believe, if any, are correct?
Afterlife? Yes.(Romans 6:23, for example) Reincarnation? No. (Hebrews 9:27) Thinking about an afterlife or an eternal life require us to think way beyond ourselves. It's almost impossible for me to get my mind to even begin to comprehend the wonder of what it means to continue to live when our physical bodies die. Imagine what life would be like here if there were no God, if there were no afterlife. Meaningless. Existence for the sake of existence, a purposeless void.
