It was the year of the first heart-lung transplant, Prozac's release in the US, and the year that the Japanese legendary rock band BOØWY - which included Tomayasu Hotei (Battle Without Honor Or Humanity, from Kill Bill) and Kyosuke Himuro (Calling, the second credits music for Advent Children) - broke up.

1987 saw the releases of The Untouchables, Lethal Weapon, Predator, Raising Arizona, The Chipmunk Adventure, Spaceballs, Adventures In Babysitting, RoboCop, The Lost Boys, The Living Daylights, Hellraiser, The Princess Bride, and the third Black Adder series.

It was the year of the first Mega Man, Castlevania, Metal Gear, Double Dragon, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Zelda games. Also, Maniac Mansion.

The best selling works of fiction were Stephen King's Tommyknockers and Tom Clancy's Patriot Games.

Liberace, Rita Hayworth, Fred Estaire and Andy Warhol died. It was also the year of birth for Hilary Duff and Aaron Carter.

Here's a look at all the wonderful stuff that happened that year.

January 4 - State of Ohio agrees to pay $675,000 to families of dead and injured in Kent State University shootings.

March 28 - Nuclear power plant accident at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania, releases radiation

April 10 - A tornado hits in Wichita Falls, Texas killing 42 people. It was the most notable tornado of twenty-six that hit that day.

June 3 - A blowout at the Ixtoc I oil well in the southern Gulf of Mexico causes at least 600,000 tons (176,400,000 gallons) of oil to be spilled into the waters, the worst oil spill to date. Some estimate the spill to be 428 million gallons, making it the largest unintentional oil spill ever.

July 2 - The Susan B. Anthony one-dollar coin is introduced in the US.

What can I say, it was the end of the 70's. People were confused and irritable.
