    Guess what I saw today!

I was in my room, when I heard a strange noise coming from downstairs.

I listen closely, and it sounds like a waterfall.

I enter my sister's room to find that water is flowing from her ceiling fan.

Quickly I gather buckets and towels. And ran like hell to shut off the water.

Found that a pipe to the water heater had busted and it was coming all into the top of my sister's room. Now she has a hole in her roof, soggy carpet, and waterlogged fan.

    Ugh...just not my day...

The same thing happened in my house, but 10X worse. It flooded the entire house, caused God knows how much water damage, and ruined Christmas... twice.

Well think of it this way...It wasn't YOUR room, right? Plus now your sister can look up at the starry starry nights.

That's pretty weird (and a real bummer for your sister). Hopefully it didn't damage her room/carpet too bad.

When our hot water heater burst, it also ruined about $1,000 worth of Dave's underground comic collection. He still has water-damaged copies of a few of them, but most were rendered useless. I felt bad because I found it first and had to break the news to him.

I'm glad the water heater in this house is outside. When it fell over nothing got ruined but the crabgrass lawn. Well, that and the water bill.

Re: Guess what I saw today!

Well my sister is away at college at the moment.

I got the water out of the carpet and washed the wet sheets. Tore the section of ceiling, and saw that the problem was in small portion and I wouldn't have to replace the whole ceiling.

Very lucky. Also got to learn how to sweat pipe and how to get the water heater to turn back on.

When I took the glass dome that covers the lightbulb on the ceiling fan, it was full of water, but yet the lightbulb still worked.

Now I just need to make sure there is no mold and replace the drywall.

There's the problem. It looks like you have a skeleton in your ceiling.

Reminds me of the time my brother didnt flip back up the water pump switch on our malfunctioning toilet.

                      Boom, flooded hallway.

See I told you it was because you helped Samara. Did you watch the tape? You should, it's better than "A Night in Paris". Not as scary though.

Good luck fixing it. The world sucks without hot water. I had to live 2 weeks without it about 3 months ago.

When my house flooded twice, we had to rip out the flooring, the walls, etc.
                            Lucky me, there was mold.

Re: Guess what I saw today!

Argh. We've had so many water problems at this house, but surprisingly very little damage in the way of materials. We had two leaks in the roof that took about 3 roofing companies later to fix.

One of the trees's roots in our front yard managed to get into an underground pipe that essentially stopped all our water from running out of the house. Resulted in us having to use very little water or the basement would become flooded. Had to have the front yard bulldozed, so they could replace the pipe. The grass still hasn't grown back completely what with all the rocky debris embedded deep in the ground.

Recently, during a heavy rain the sump pump stopped working. So the water level came up, up, up and flooded half our basement. Luckily most stuff was salvagable (was mere inches away before it had reached my old Nintendo that was on the floor!) The Commodore 64 Survived also, as it had been in enough cardboard boxes to protect it from getting wet. It took a week or two to get the carpet sucked and blown dry and get the musty smell outta the basement.

All in all, I feel your pain.
