scientists discover bone of "ancient hobbit" yup the world is going to hell!

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051011/ap_on_sc/hobbit_jaw

its bad enogh they made a movie about midgets plunking costume jewelry in an active volcano to save the world when a real story would have involved a real hero killing the damn sauron, selling the ring to get rich and riding off with both chicks in the movie on his horse.

I guess this sort of gives lotr geeks a reason to justify thier existance, if we find freaking clingons I'm going on a killng spree, nothing justifies star trek geeks.

      Define "Star Trek geeks" please.

Would it be someone who feels the need to correct your spelling...it's "Klingon"?

I just find it lame that they throw around the word hobbit to try to tap into the pop culture vein.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

No, but it would be someone who can speak it and quote and cite star trek ad nauseum, this is a message board, spelling is irrelevant.

someone who "speaks" any star trek language (anything made up like that).

And you don't have to be angry to **** on something, I don't like LOTR, because I don't believe that a hero is a midget plunking a peice of costume jewelry into a volcano. A hero during wartime is someone who can fight. I don't buy that a midget can sneak into another country through the most heavily guarded areas where armies are and essentially destroy it with a silly piece of jewelry.

I like my fantasy a little more appealing, with no "holier than thou" feeling.

everyone has different tastes, but I would rather have something more believable, even in the genere of fantasy.

Isn't believable? I'm not much a Tolkein fan, for the same reason it is believable. He goes into extreme detail, and if you've actually read the story, you'd understand.

And a "midget" probably has a better chance of sneaking into Mordor, than a big hulky hero. Not to mention, LotR has that as well.

                    You're an idiot.

I really would not consider Tolkien "pop culture". If it werent for the Lord of the Rings movies and all their neato special effects, the mass majority would still not know what a Hobbit or Middle-earth were.

If you mention the title "The Silmarillion" to any of the claimed hard core "LotR" fans, they would look at you if you had a huge pubic hair growing out of your forehead.

Well, LotR was probably a bigger deal in the 50s/60s when it was being published.

And, Ogre, I guess you're more a fan of the traditional hero than the modern hero.

Not Tolkien, Hobbit. 9 out 10 people probably won't know what your talking about when you mention Tolkien but after the love fest that was Return of the Kings everyone's bound to know what a Hobbit is. "Hobbit?" "You mean that little guy Elijah Wood?"

It's like how practically every college-age guy is bound to have watched Fear in Loathing in Las Vegas and not have a clue who Hunter Thompson is.
