This is a great utility: http://jgoodies.com/freeware/jdiskreport/
Allows you to visualize in a pie graph what folders and files are taking up space on your hard drive. Extremely useful.
Here's something. Does anyone know how pick and choose what starts when Windows starts up? I'm sure I've got a bunch of unnecessary crap going that's boggingdown my computer.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.
Windows has an utility called MSCONFIG (invoke it from Start -> Run; it should already be installed on your machine) whereby you can choose which items run at start up.
In WIN.INI, under the [windows] section, there can be "load=" and "run=" entries (also executed at startup). These exist all the way back from Windows 3.1, and as such, I don't think anyone would find anything here nowadays, but who knows (spyware).
I didn't know about WinPatrol. I always use the AdAware + SpybotS&D combo.
Finally, Grisoft/AVG offers a free edition of its antivirus.
Winpatrol is different in the fact that you don't run a daily scan, but it's constantly on, and warns you if something is trying to do something it shouldn't.
