Re: Sorry we made you take responsibility

I think BP's legal team is probably not out there laying boom. It's probably like, secretaries and stuff.
So you're a fish out of water...
    Keep swimming.
    What else can you do?

I agree, and I think we should never take their liberties away.

But I don't think anyone proposed taking their liberties away.

Re: Sorry we made you take responsibility

They're one of the 5 most profitable companies in the world. I expect them to be able to multi-task. Since Day 1, they've been actively trying to limit their liability, the perception of the damage they've caused and even determine which judge gets to hear the case. I don't think the government needs to sit around and wait until BP's "ready" to pursue criminal charges.

BUT WHAT DO I KNOW, HUH?
But... this disaster will not be over for Decades at best.

Or do you mean just the immediate crisis of the blowout? (I refuse to call it a spill!)

BP needs to pay for having destroyed the lives of countless millions affected by this disaster. The Congressman's retractment of his apology, even if it was opportunistic and douchey was the right course.
Worst environmental disaster in history stemming from the failure of a company to follow safety procedures and treat a situation proactively and intelligently? Somebody needs to pay, and a year's worth of profit as such is being unwisely magnanimous.

If Matt Simmons is correct, and the fractures appearing around the wellhead are ready to expose a massive bubble of methane trapped underneath the Earth, this could become an event that kills millions. Personally, I don't think that's the case, although there is at least some evidence to support his hypothesis.

I suppose, but it's hard to take his apology at face value when he was apologizing... for apologizing... while grandstanding... and being opportunistic and douchey in the process.

Thus the world ended, not with a bang but a giant fart.

That would be an interesting way for the world to end.

Sounds like the start of a movie really.

Yes, he did. I won't be held to a double standard and expected to have a back and forth argument lasting pages.

Oh? Did he not say the words that were quoted? I stand behind everything I said there.
You're ignoring the last half of that sentence you quoted.

You're not making sense to me. Just a little while ago you said "What he's arguing is that the proper legal procedures have been ignored". To me this sounds like a contradiction, but I have a feeling you're making a distinction between the "legal procedures" of due diligence and the legality of the payment. Is that what you're saying?
                            Yes, sorry for not clarifying.

You can have the last word, I'm busy as all hell here.

What double-standard are you being held to?

You said "all three of those paragraphs are wrong"! That means "everything". So if half of it was right, I'm allowed to ignore the last half of it and call BS on what you said!

You can have the last word, I'm busy as all hell here.
You know, there are an amazing variety of blends available in the world of coffee today. But sometimes we get caught up in our work-a-day world and forget to take advantage of and embrace this complexity. We become stuck on one particular blend and totally unable to even contemplate trying anything new. We become grumpy and unable to adapt when we don't get our coffee without any reguard for the effect this will have on our friends and family. But by the same token manufacturers and retailers need to understand that they can't just make a scrumptious and addictive product and fail to provide, no matter what the cost. There will have to come a time when we as a society stand up and take these things into consideration- caffeine withdrawl affects us all. Take care of yourselves- and each other.

This guy obviously represents a highly gerrymandered safe seat. Probably somewhere in the heart of Texas' oil industry.
