Antichrist is more intense than that.

My heart has been heavy ever since I left work today...I only have Before Sunrise on a VHS copy dubbed from cable right now, but I think I'm gonna pop it in. I've not felt this way in a while, and I wanna take advantage of it.

EDIT: Started getting teary not 15 minutes in, and a bit later was weeping like a little girl, and smiling through my tears. If you are in your mid twenties and can watch this film and feel nothing, there's really just no hope for you.

The Fountain, Big Fish, and Dragonball Evolution. The last one is more tears of frustration and shame.

I watched American Beauty. That was one good movie. No tear sheading...and I'm a little disappointed by that. I'm going to give some of these other movies a try. Don't know which one yet.

So, why did that movie make you cry, Perv? I didn't think it was a sad movie, but quite funny actually.

Re: Movies that make you cry

I cry for weird reasons sometimes. Sometimes, it's just due to how well-done a scene is, without being sad, per se.

In American Beauty, one scene that gets me is when Jane comes home and sees the "weirdo" taping her. She calls him a creep, but when she gets inside, she's got this slight smile on her face as she leans against the wall.

And later, when Mena Suvari is trying to get his attention by posing seductively when he's taping them through the bedroom window, and he's instead taping Thora Birch's reflection in the mirror.

The scene where Col. Fitz breaks into his son's bedroom and punches him is painful as well, especially as Jane is looking on from the window across.

The scene where Mena Suvari's character is told that she is ordinary had me cheering a bit, but it is also kinda painful.

But yeah...I'm at the point where if a scene is really well-done, or if it's emotionally brutal (especially if it's directed against a woman), this gets the tears flowing. See one of the most verbally brutal films ever made called In the Company of Men for a prime example of this. It's not so much that I cry because scenes in films make me sad...it's just that they touch my emotions in some meaningful way.

If you can set aside any preconceptions about "romance" films (meaning, most of them are "chick flicks" and are pretty awful), I encourage you to see Before Sunrise. See it by yourself first, and then see it with someone you are dating or trying to date. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that this film will score major points for you. And it's quite simply one of the best romantic films ever made. It's NOT a chick flick, and has intelligence on the part of the viewer as a prerequisite.

                          Grave of the Fireflies

Very manipulative movie, though. It almost forces you to cry. Not subtle at all.

                          Also: Food, Inc.

The part about the three-year-old that got food poisoning from a fast food burger and died. The mother's description of it made my eyes swell up. Also, seeing "farm" animals collapsing under their excessive growth was very sad, as well.
