    Sarah Palin Resigns

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009...laska-governor

Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate who electrified her party's campaign last year, has resigned as Alaska's governor in a dramatic decision that has fuelled speculation she is positioning herself to run for president.
Palin, who built strong support among conservative Republicans as John McCain's running mate last year, said she will step down in three weeks because she can contribute more away from politics.
The timing of the announcement on the eve of independence day led some critics to accuse her of trying to bury the news of her resignation. But given that almost nothing else was going on it might have been a move to dominate the news bulletins as it forced Michael Jackson's death from the top slot.

Seriously though, some of the speculation has been she's going to be running for president in 2012 to she's going to have a new Oprah-esque show on Fox News. Just thought I'd share.

And this is the person that christian families are rooting for, and she can't even run her full term. Absolutely ridiculous.
    ...and that's why.

The FOX News thing is probably the most probable.

She's got everything they want in a show: A hot lady, ratings, and a conservative message.

I hope she gets the Republican nomination for President in '12, because the only thing she's do is run her party even further into the hole.

Alaska should cheer their good fortune - unfortunately, they'll almost definitely squander it by electing another idiot as their governor.

                This also came up today:

                http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-a...=hp:mainpromo2

Many political observers in Alaska are fixated on rumors that federal investigators have been seizing paperwork from SBS in recent months, searching for evidence that Palin and her husband Todd steered lucrative contracts to the well-connected company in exchange for gifts like the construction of their home on pristine Lake Lucille in 2002. The home was built just two months before Palin began campaigning for governor, a job which would have provided her enhanced power to grant building contracts in the wide-open state.
Though Todd Palin told Fox News he built his Lake Lucille home with the help of a few "buddies," according to Barrett’s report, public records revealed that SBS supplied the materials for the house. While serving as mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin blocked an initiative that would have required the public filing of building permits—thus momentarily preventing the revelation of such suspicious information.
Just months before Palin left city hall to campaign for governor, she awarded a contract to SBS to help build the $13 million Wasilla Sports Complex. The most expensive building project in Wasilla history, the complex cost the city an additional $1.3 million in legal fees and threw it into severe long-term debt. For SBS, however, the bloated and bungled project was a cash cow.

Outgoing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday laid the groundwork to take on a larger, national role after leaving state government, citing a "higher calling" with the aim of uniting the country along conservative lines.
Goddammit, she's going to run for president.

I DON'T. She sunk what chances McCain had and it was pretty much a long shot for him as a Republican running during economic hardship after a two-term Republican president in the first place. Then she starts making every political gaffe she could think of and made things worse. What Republicans need to be doing now is trying to gain ground in the cities and on the coasts instead of sucking up to their increasingly narrow base, and she WON'T do that.

but thats exactly why people want her to run for president. she cost McCain the election, and that was a wonderful thing.

moral conservatives are garbage, and anything that keeps them from running the country is fine with me.

                        Fixed.

The country wouldn't have gone wrong with McCain. He's an honorable man, he knows the horrors of war, he respects science, and he'd make a lot of the painful decisions necessary to balance our budget. He would have been a LOT better than Bush.

Then again, it was kind of hilarious to see him kowtow to the GOP puppeteers, not only with moves like Sarah Palin as running mate, but also with stupid comments like "I like to box. I always picture the face of a Liberal on my punching bag. *weird grin* "

oh yes it would have. oh god, would it have ever.

Nevermind all the terrible political aspects of the man, but he was already showing signs of losing his mind during the campaign. "My fellow prisoners" and all that jazz.

probably would have completely lost it under the stress of the job, if not just flat-out died. and then we'd have palin as president.

I'm convinced McCain had given up having his own standards and just really, really wanted to be president, so he went along with anything anyone suggested if it meant him winning.

Ha! Well, admittedly, I never thought of any of that.
