    Closed Ears

I'm not sure what I'm gonna get myself into but posting this, but I'm looking to educate myself. I hope I'm taken seriously (probably not).

When Christians talk about Christianity, what are some of the biggest things that turn you off from listening to them?

    Re: Closed Ears

The whole God thing and trying to convert people like they're some kind of ****ing mall-booth people trying to sell you some ugly ass sunglasses.

People needs to realize that other people can believe in whatever they want, and no religion is the "real" religion, it's just made up stories to give people something to believe in and calm their fears over dealing with death...all this talk about "Jesus was real and rose from the dead" and "you're going to heaven when you die" without stone cold proof is pure and utter ignorant on part of the believer, and don't throw that "Faith makes it real" crap on me...really...is that your ONLY defense?

To believe in such things and refuse to even think that some other religion may be right is completely ignorant and proves how religion has brainwashed all of us....

ANYWAYS, back on topic, I wanted to make a wall of text but I need to stay on topic...so yeah, my first sentence is how I feel on the matter.

The part that deals with Christianity.

Perhaps the same could be said of ALL religions.

                Re: Closed Ears

wth, how can you seriously call that an objection? Because they believe they are right? SO DO YOU!

Believing that what you think is right is kindof a prequisite to believing in anything. Mora believes his opinions on movies are absolute truth, and yet he is treated like a pariah, instead of a ****ing douchebag idiot, like Christians.

Just because JPS believes that all religions are a bunch of hullibaloo invented by ignorant and terrified stone age humans, and that he believes he is right, doesn't make him an idiot, does it?

Of course not, but by your reasoning it does Cutter. I've heard this objection a dozen times over from people that I would normally find to be very intelligent, Valk included. But when I hear that piece of half-assed logic I can't help but see a slightly smarter than average person who believes they-are much smarter than they really are, and thus doesn't feel the need to completely think through any argument, especially when dealing with "ignorant Christians." Sadly enough, it seems most athiests fall into this category.

                **** all of you.

I wasnt aware Dracula had an unibrow. :3

Chill out Storm, I didnt denounce christianity or any other religion, they may be true, I have no evidence to say theyre not true, so why would I say otherwise?

Im just saying that hard-core christians are crazy, they think their beliefs are true and absolute, although most christians will just say "maybe you're right about there not being a God, maybe youre not", the hard-core christians will stone you to death if you so much as hint as denouncing Christianity as the true religion.

There are hundreds of religions in the world, what, after realizing that, makes you think that yours is the one thats right?

                    Re: Closed Ears

                    1) Jesus fish on cars.
                    2) People who REALLY take the Old Testament as literal truth, and not just myths/fairy tales.
                    3) Their views on abortions and a woman's right to choose.
                    4) Furthermore, their views on stem cell research.
                    5) That by and large, they align themselves with Republican viewpoints (or do the Republicans align themselves to Christian viewpoints?)
                    6) That their (along with Catholics...I'm not sure which religion is a subset of which) influence is so great that Wal-Mart, who is one of the largest retailers of music and possibly games, caves into their demands when deciding what to carry and what not to carry. This in turn leads to record labels and video game publishers to self-censor (clean versions of albums, games having to be toned down from receiving an AO rating) in order not to offend one of their largest retail bases.
                    7) Jamming religion down my throat...yadda, yadda. :beatingadeadhorse
                    8) Family values and sheltering their children from the real world to such an extent that when the child grows up, he/she is in for a rude awakening (see Dusk Raven). Either that, or depending on exactly how overprotective they are, the kid might end up more screwed up than if they had been lenient on cetain things, or at least had discussions about things instead of sweeping them under the rug and pretending they didn't exist.
                    9) How seperation of church and state is becoming narrower and narrower with each passing year.
                    10) Banned books.
                    11) Forcing abstinence to be taught in schools when it clearly does not work, and then getting up in arms if schools want to teach about birth control, and wondering at the same time why high school girls are getting pregnant.
                    12) The whole "sex is for procreation only" thing, which forces devout believers to possibly have more children than they can comfortably support, in order to avoid "sinning."
                    13) Not encouraging condom use in both this and Third World countries, which leads to a rise in HIV infection and families in those countries having the same problem mentioned in #12 above.
                    14) Priests taking a vow of chastity, but being turned on by and taking advantage of young boys in (seemingly) inordinate numbers.

And, I guess to sum up....

                    15) Any belief that they hold that, due to their influence, is imparted on the rest of the country/world without their consent.

So, yeah. I don't necessarily have anything against INDIVIDUAL Christians. It's as a mass voting and entertainment-consuming "interest group" that I have a problem with them.

To clear something up for you Perv, Catholicism is a subset of Christianity.

I almost posted an entire page that addressed each and every issue you presented, but then realized it is of no use. Everyone here is so set on their hatred of religion, Christianity in perticular it seems, that I would just be ignored or made fun of.

P.S. I know it hasn't come up yet, but I'm sure it will, but Christians didn't invent war. It has existed as long as humans have lived in seperate communities, get over your self-righteousness.

I don't like it when someone insists that their interpretation of the bible is the only correct one.

If anyone tells you that humans need religion to make war, then they are either lieing, are optimists, or idiots.

I would [post my argument], but the fault in my entire argument is that my points are based on what Christians are supposed to be, not what they are. I could argue that the people who you point out are not really Christians, because they are the opposite of many things that Christians are supposed to embody, but I fear it would not be considered valid.
