    Re: Holy ****ing ****.

I don't view him as the second coming of Christ or anything. He was a funny guy who pushed the envelope at every opportunity, but a lot of his stuff was hit or miss with me.

I'll always remember him first as Rufus and last as the grandfather in Jersey Girl. Because he actually turned out a good performance that wasn't just Carlin schlock in Jersey Girl.

It's not that I have anything against him! He's lovely in Bill & Ted! But I didn't know him or anything.

i thought it was a bizzar dream that i had, i guess sez told me after all and i just wanted to sleep. i saw him several years back preforming one of his newer skits and i enjoyed his performance. he was heckling some hecklers that almost got booted out. i enjoyed much of his wit though i agree a bunch of it was hit and miss.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

                Re: Holy ****ing ****.

I work at a newspaper. Every day when I come in and I have nothing to do yet I go to the local news site until something comes up. Whenver I have down time, I look at news sites so I don't look like an asshole. I go to NJ.com, then CNN, then Reuters, and if they haven't updated in a long enough time, I go to Drudge Report.

So all day every day I'm just reading and hearing about things that are happening, even if I don't really want to.

So I came in and opened Netscape and the first piece of information I got regarding events in the real world was that George Carlin was dead, and I decided that I just really don't want a career in journalism.

I semi-agree on the hit or miss contention. Most of his stuff is pretty much comedy gold...but I saw this thing he did about "stuff," and how we always need places to keep our "stuff," and how we need smaller places for our "stuff" when we go on vacation....the first 3-4 minutes were funny, but after that, it was like beating a dead horse.

Don't know where I first saw him. I think I KNEW about him (the seven words you can't say on TV) before I ever saw a performance of his or a movie he had done. It's like one of those guys who was always kinda there, so you never really remember when your first exposure actually was.

I wonder what he did with his two-minute warning.

RIP George, you will be missed.

                          Re: Holy ****ing ****.

george carlin had DAYS worth of original stand up material, where most comedians will have a few hours worth in their lifetime, at best. he was not only good at wordplay, but also at performance, and he paid attention to both and worked hard to get better at both, where most people just "do" there stuff... put it out there and hope it's good, rather than actually thinking about it as a craft that they could get better at. that's what i liked most about him.

While it does suck that he's dead, it's not like he doesn't have tons of material to remember him by. He was a great comedian.

This song is for you George.

EDIT: You can't help but cry to that song.
