    Re: Rejection.

honestly i think half the time aspergers is just diagnosed on quirky, socially inept kids.

I was a socially awkward and genuinely weird kid, and more than one of my teachers suggested I be tested for mild autism, my parents basically told them to **** off and hey i turned out AWESOME. I think if I had been told by a doctor that I had some condition that made me socially awkward and weird it would have facilitated me continuing to be so into adolescence.

Yeah, these days parents are more than ready to blindly accept a diagnosis of ADD or aspergers.

When I was in second grade, they discovered I was dyslexic. Everyone assumed that it was because when I was born, I couldn't hear, so naturally my speech and social development would be affected.

It's funny, because all they did was test me from time to time, and they never helped me in any way to try and adjust to or deal with what I was facing. I still took advanced english throughout school but struggled with math after 6th grade.

I'll admit that the dyslexia affects my reading, spelling, speaking ability, etc, but I refuse to let it define who I am and I try not to constantly remind people that I'M SPECIAL.

I usually just explain it when I make really stupid spelling/sentence errors, or when I completely mis-pronounce something. :P

My advice to you, Dusk, would be to calm down. Just relax. Getting all upset and angry at internet people you'll never know in real life is pointless. You can't change the world and everyone's opinions from your PC.

I know these things are not the same, but both are disorders that affect how we interact with people. They have other effects, too. But using your aspergers as a crutch won't help you in the long run.

I certainly had no idea. Now I wish Karr would try harder by your example. I salute you, good Nixon.

Is this a result from dyslexia?

Sure is, Seraph. It is hard to get the right answer when all the numbers are jumbled up in your head.

I thought that was dyscalculia or whatever.

                    Are you being sarcastic?
I didn't know it applied to numbers as well. I ask because I failed every year of math after 6th grade due to a "learning disability". After all the tests I've gone through it was never diagnosed as anything more than a disability.

I don't know, really. I didn't learn more about dyslexia until I was older. Like I said, they identified the problem and then just kinda let me deal with it on my own. I tend to transpose letters/words and numbers, so I assumed that played some sort of role.

                        I was being serious, Seraph.

Big Rick, it is possible for her to have both, if not more likely because they are very similar and potentially related (as the article itself said.)

I had a Calculus prof in college that had the same thing...more with numbers than letters. It kept us on our toes.

I had a rather large response to this when my power went out, and my computer restarted, and now it won't start back up. So I hate this topic. And I love everyone in it.
