Re: Ron Paul: "I don't believe in evolution."

While my stance isn't the same as Ron Paul's on evolution, and I certainly don't like the fact that he's a disbeliever of a well-supported theory, I'll still be voting for him for a couple reasons:

    1. Whether he's a believer in evolution or creationism, it will have zero influence over his policy. Either way, Paul wants to get the federal government out of things like regulating education.

    2. He's proven himself to be well-reasoned on other issues where his opinion actually affects policy decisions, especially on foreign policy, which is one of the most important issues for me.

And, for the people speculating otherwise, Ron Paul is not against gays.

Can anyone please substantiate on whether Ron Paul actually believes this, or whether this was taken out of context?

By definition, a theory is falsifiable but not absolutely verifiable. Evolution as a theory has been tested for every species over time, and it's our best way of explaining natural phenomena. The belief in God is just that--a belief (which I for one subscribe to), NOT a theory.

Any candidate who believes otherwise loses a lot of my favor--because I feel it shows an obvious disdain for science and for technological progress. If true, this would be enough for me to completely ignore Ron Paul from here on out, leaving me with only John McCain and Barack Obama to support. And my man Dennis Kucinich, of course, if he can somehow get into the race.

By the way, on the topic of '08 candidates, my friend made a very funny remark the other day about John Edwards:
Debate Moderator: Senator Edwards, what is your proposed solution for the War in Iraq?
Edwards: We need to go in there, and eliminate their big corporations!

I don't even really know what your argument is here. Creationism is a philosophical view through which Christians (and other religious groups) interpret the origins of the universe. If your argument is that it is not scientific -- well, that seems sort of obvious, as it is a philosophy.

I don't understand your second point either, but I think it's probably because we have different definitions of Creationism. If by "Creationism," you mean the view that evolution is false and that the Genesis account is a literal and precise retelling of "the beginning," then I suppose I can agree that such a thing is religious propaganda. However, I consider myself to be a Creationist, but by using that term I mean to say that I see obvious scientific truths such as evolution as the work of a higher power. I can't really see how that is propaganda, considering I'm not making any actual scientific claims.

Or it's possible that I'm misreading your post entirely. You leave a lot of gaps in your reasoning, which I don't blame you for. Making detailed message board posts about science and philosophy is tiresome.
