and just so you know guys they dont actually kill god in his dark materials its really a rouge angel who's taken controll of creation while god himselve aviced the position right after he made everything and this new angle is a dictator and so the kids are actualy freeing the world from tyrany so there you go
In all seriousness though, the anti-religon stuff in Golden Compass have been drasticly toned down for the movie. Don't want to alienate potential cash-flow.
And it's Asriel, Cohliani, not Isreal. You're compleatly misunderstanding the reference.
No... I'm not misunderstanding it! He is NOT an angel... Whether his name is Israel or Asrael it's an OBVIOUS reference to the Christian god. And like I said before Pullman himself said that "My book is about killing god." So I don't see how you can prove to me that the book is not about killing god...
I challenge all you Pullman lovers to give me strict evidence that this book is not Anti-Christian.
Seriously though if I made a book about killing Buddha would you say that book is Pro-Buddhist?
"There's Nothing better than a drunken Russian singing Italian opera"
First of all Lord Asriel is the man who wars against god in the story, not god himself. The name "Asriel" is associated with demonic figures, not holy.
Second, no one is claming that the book is pro-Christianity. In fact it is very anti-Christian. It's especially against the Christian practice of cutting up children's reproductive organs. It is a book with atheist bent written by an atheist.
Thirdly, it's fiction. So what if kids kill god? It's all a story, make-believe, not real. The god in the story has nothing to do with the god you believe in.

Yeah but right after that Pullman said, "Nah, I'm totally ****ing with you guys."
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.
I agree with a lot of people on this one. First, read the damn book if you are going to be so adamantly against it. Second, if you have kids and have read and known the points of the book, and you don't want to expose them to it, don't let them read it. That's the role of a parent. Third, there is no right or wrong reason to believe in this world, considering it is so damn diverse, there is no WAY one person can be right (although that is my personal OPINION, I can never state that as a fact).

God was never a rouge angel, and he did indeed die in the books, but the thing is, was that he was HAPPY to "die" as if the angels were keeping him hostage for the sake of controlling the minds of their followers. In essence, it expresses a point of view about how "God" or whatever, is not a single sentient being, but it's about how "God" is all around us, and part of us, and that our emotions and love and feeling bring life to that which we don't think is alive.

I do believe heavily that it is anti-religion, just not anti-God, and besides, the movie is suppose to cut out most of the religious references. So, boycott it with your friends if you don't like it, and let the rest of us enjoy it.

complaining about how evil a book is that you havent read, and telling people who HAVE read it that they're wrong about it?
yeah, that'll get you respect around here.
I don't see anything wrong with making fictional works that are "anti-christian". christians make fictional works that are "anti-everyone else in the world" quite often.
I think you christians need to learn that there are people out there that just doesnt agree with your viewpoints, I know its a hard concept for yall to comprehend, but complaining about it isnt going to do anything but make it worse.
Christians has no right in this world to tell people what they can and cant feed their kids, if they want to bring them up anti-christian, then let them, Im sure they have good reasons for it that christians would not understand, for the fact that you guys believe anything the church throws at you.
I for one is getting sick and tired of hearing christian groups going around terrorizing people and talking about how "The end is near"...the end is not here, it didnt happen in 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, or 2000, what makes you think itll happen sometme in the next 100 years? Of course it might, but it definitely wont be the work of "god", itll be man killing man, and dont say thats gods doing, thats a typical christian answer..."It doesnt have to have a reason, god just does it"...yeah, thats yalls answer to everything
Anyways, Ill never see this movie, I have no interest in doing so, but I will praise it for doing something that slaps christianity in the face for once...and dont think thats evil for me to say, you christians have been destroying things that you dont like for ages.
Im not referring to the regular church going christians in this rant, I have no problem with them at all, nor you LC for having your own beliefs, I respect your beliefs and opinions in this topic, Im referring to the hardcore christians who has devoted every single second of their life to something that might not even exist and must attempt to destroy anything that defies it the slightest bit.
Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!
