Re: Thanksgiving.
I went to work Wednesday at 1:30 pm (I was actually contemplating going in at 10 am, but I kept lazing around in bed), and did not clock out until almost 6 am on Thanksgiving day. YAY!!! Almost 17 hours of work!!!! For me, "Black Friday" is nothing. It's the "Black Wednesday" that's the killer. In the four years I've worked on the day before Thanksgiving at my current job, the EARLIEST I've been able to go home is 2:30, and the LATEST before today was 4:45. And the store manager was trying to make it a big deal that everyone was supposed to be out of the store at 10 pm Wednesday night. I knew that wouldn't happen.
On a bright note, depending on how long I choose to stay on "Black Friday," I could be looking at almost 15 hours of overtime for the week, including DOUBLE time and a half for the six hours I technically worked on Thanksgiving day, plus 8 hours of holiday pay. The only thing that sucks is that my 5th day of work does not start until 9 pm Saturday night, and goes until 9 am-ish the next morning, so only 3 hours of that day of work will be counted towards this week. Basically, I'm kinda getting screwed in that regard.
In any case, I'm not sure if I plan to sleep now, as I'll need to get up in about 4 hours anyway. I'm going to my mom's house for dinner, and then I need to be at work on "Black Friday" at 4:30 am.
Being in a management position, I feel I need to work all of these hours in order to get the work done, but at least they kinda look the other way when it comes to overtime.
Have an enjoyable Thanksgiving, everyone!
